T-case shifting troubles

I just recently bought a 94 4Runner (3.0, auto trans) mainly for it's engine. I really don't have the time to pull the engine and put in my PU right now and need something to pull my trailer so I figured I would fix the leaky brake lines and trans cooler lines until I get more time. Got those fixed only to find it drives fine in 4 low but I can not get anything in high range, 2 or 4. In 4 low it shifts up through the gears no problem. I drug another truck with my tires spinning so it's not the trans slipping. All I get when I shift to high range is you can feel the SUV rock forward ever so slightly when I rev the engine. When I bought the SUV it was in 2 high, loaded it on a dolly, had a heck of a time getting it out of high to put T-case in neutral which I really couldn't find so I left it between 4 high and 4 low and trans in neutral. Not sure if that was the thing to do but this would be the first T case I've seen with no neutral other than single range T cases. Got home put it in 4 low and unloaded it from the dolly. While driving it around my property a little in 4 low (with no brakes low range gives you some control on speed ;-) found the leaky trans cooler line. Fixed that and the brake line that I knew about before buying, filled the trans up with fluid, thought I was good to go until tried to put back in high and nothing. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me that 4 low works great but nothing in high range does. Seems to me if I had broke something inside T-case, it would show up in 4 low also. I've checked underneath while another person shifted it and it seems to be shifting ok. Any ideas or help would be appreciated. If I'm going to put a lot of time into anything I'll just pull the engine as originally planned but if someone knows of quick fix until I get more time, it would be appreciated. 4Runner has a bad case of rust, interior isn't too good and had hit a couple of deer. PU has no rust and is a nice truck other than engine which was good until I was a nice guy who went and pulled a buddies stuck Jeep out but ended up sucking water into engine and throwing a rod out the side of engine getting back to the main road.

That's a little harsh.
Xtroll, you have a point, it may be something fairly simple in the 2wd/4wd shift mechanism. I would't just dismiss it until you understand the problem and can make a reasonable conclusion. Then maybe move on. I've got a trans/t-case manual somewhere and I'll try to find some info in the next couple of days. Can't garrantee anything but maybe some useful info.
