"T40R" 5th Gen Trail SAS on 40's!!

This is fantastic! Have only heard great things about RSG, being in Colorado I can't wait to see this beast in person once it's complete.

This is pretty awesome! Hopefully, RSG will have it done in time for the FJ Summit.

There's some pretty good builds on here and this is going to be one of them. Now we just need someone to swap in a Tundra 5.7 drivetrain.

I'll reserve judgement till I see how this actually does on the trail. Fingers crossed it works as good as it will look.

What I'm most curious about is how this will be shifting in and out of four wheel drive. The oem front diff has the sliding collar type front axle. I suppose there will be a change out to a different transfer case - -

Glad to see something on here that's not about leds and sliders.

Yep, Jason and the guys at RSG know their stuff! I had them do my 5100's last Friday, and spent a lot of time drooling at all the lifted 4Runners and FJ's in the parking lot. One guy even has a lifted GX on 37's. Look forward to seeing how the SAS goes!

Not just "will it work good on the trail" but how well will it handle on the road. I've seen both sides to that and I've seen some that are pretty good everywhere.

The transfer case should be fine as it's a manual lever operated case. Manual locking hubs should take care of locking the front axle. The only thing I would change on the transfer case would be to add a doubler kit in, super low range, and maybe a twin/triple stick conversion.

We considered SAS for my build, but the benefits weren't there. It's neat for sure, but yeah as you said, it's not like IFS sucks. Especially when you're talking about weight handling and road handling.

Also I've heard SAS *HAS* been done before in the 5th gen, but was done by folks who either didn't care about internet points, or just didn't really need to brag about it. But I've heard it was done.

Again will reserve judgement.

I also want to see how they are going to give it room for up travel...are they building custom body panels like Marshal? If not, those are going to have to be some loooooonnnng bumpstops to keep those 40's from destroying the fender wells.

They'll relocate forward by about 2-3 inches and cut the fenders is my guess. That plus about a 4 inch lift would give pretty good clearance. 4" more tire radius plus another 2-4 inches of fender cut would allow for pretty good range of motion.

Most definitely bolt on.

Quite a project and yes an outstanding tax write off.

There's no way this will be a bolt on kit. SAS is a one way ticket. It's going to require cutting off all of the IFS parts. Then welding on all new link mounts to the frame. There's no plausible way I can imagine making a bolt on setup that has the link brackets and such. All Pro already sells a kit that's a weld in setup. This is basically the same thing would be my guess. No matter how you do it, you'll have to weld on the suspension mounts, shock towers, and spring buckets. Plus if you want a long travel rear to match - it's going to mean new longer control arms and new mounts welded on the rear also.

Even long travel is a pretty one way ticket. (Reverting it would be a pretty extensive job if not impossible in some spots). Most people tend to be gung ho for the idea of these kinds of upgrades, see the price, and see what has to get cut off and welded, and then turn around and go "nope!"

That doesn't even factor in the time to trail tune.

I'm excited to follow this. Someone has to build, make mistakes, and rebuild first. Good luck and keep us posted. I'm definitely a fan of this.

About time some one posted up on this. Was only a matter of time.

What are you going to do for fenders JasonRSG?

He posted a little teaser on IG... [emoji16]
