Thanks for the clarification. Any idea what the difference is between the 5th gen T4R and Taco Tokicos? You still on the FJ Moog coils in the rear?

Yep, still have the MOOGs, but if I were to go back, I probably would have gotten the 4runner springs with spacers. The moog fj springs supposedly have a slightly lower spring rate. They also have a poor fit into the axle. They also look to be sprayed, not powdercoated. They are pretty much the worst moog product I have ever bought, :hatsoff:

the 5th gen 4runner tokicos look huge next to the taco bilsteins. They are much thicker. Im not sure if the taco tokicos are much different from the taco bilsteins, but I wouldnt do it. You can probably get 5th gen takeoffs for the same price or cheaper. Mine were free

A big consideration is the 4runner has a lot more weight over the taco, mostly in the back. And the 5th gen 4r has about 500lbs over the 4th gen.

nope, lower bushings are the same. Its the top bushings that were too tall so there wasnt enough thread showing to tighten them. I'm sure there's bushings out there that work, but I just modded the orig to work. I can explain the mod I did later if need, but maybe in another thread to avoid the hijack.

Doing the swap right now, currently I have FJ coil overs installed and those look much beefier compared to Taco ones.

i did mine last weekend in conjunction with new lower control arms. TRD Offroad coils and tacoma bilstein shocks up front. Fj coils and tacoma bilstein shocks in the back. completely level front to rear at 36 inches ground to top of fender. didn't take before measurements but i have to say i gained 2 inches of lift upfront. oh and i have a V6

didn't have to use a spring compressor either which was a plus.

Will the 2007 TRD Off Road coils work? Or is it better to find the newer 2nd Gen Tacoma coils?

I'm thinking these with some 4Runner or FJ rear coils and Bilstein 5100's. Front Bilsteins set at 1.75. Do I need a front or rear spacer?

This thread is full of great information. But my question has not been covered as far as I can see. So here goes.

I have an 03 4x4 v8 Limited 4Runner with the leaky xreas garbage. I have a set of 06 Tacoma Sport Prerunner Bilstien shocks with no springs. Will the front springs and top mount from my 4Runner work the Tacoma front shocks? Also, will the rear shocks be ok with the stock 4Runner springs?

I installed 5100's on my Tacoma so I have my old ones just sitting in the garage collecting dust. I would prefer to get the 5100's for the 4Runner but can't afford it right now, so this seems like my best option.

Yes front shocks will work wiht your front springs and top moutn, but you will get NO lift, and if they are sagging you will go back to the same height you are at now. The rear shocks will be fine with the rear springs that are stock, i have 1.5" spacer and they work great on mine. You will need the bottom bushing pressed out though and the energy suspension bushing for the3 bottom.

Top hat part numbers/coils

Does anyone have the part numbers for the top hats they used for this set? I'm picking up 15 Tacoma billis today. I believe they are off a sport, no coils so I have to source those as well. Another question, if I can't find used here or from other sources like eBay, where is the best place to buy new? Does moog or any other after market company make these coils. I know icon and those places sell them but I'm trying to be budget conscious. Thanks for your help.

That's perfect. I'm not looking for a lift, I'll just do 5100's when I do. I just need to replace my completely leaked out xreas shocks for now. Thanks for your input!!

[email protected] with the tacoma offroad coils will give you well over 3" fyi so you will need to plan on UCA's..

I have them set at .85 with the 5100's and am sitting at 2.5"

Even with the progressive coild preloaded, I still wish it was more firm, and I have a v6...

Mish mash

Like the title says I have a mish mash of Tacoma parts. New and used parts, and from different years. It took awhile scouring our local Kijiji trying to find all the parts. So I have stuff from 2006 right up to 2015. Right now I am waiting on the energy bushings. I was going to put fj coils on the back, but I am ok with the height. I just want to accomplish a better ride as the xreas are sloppy and to raise the front up a bit. I should be tackling this in a few weeks. I will update with some pictures and list all the parts used. Thanks to everyone for there help and especially 84ability for answering all my questions.

I purchased the KYB ones from Amazon and they are good quality. If you are not adding a spacer lift, they should work. They are about $25 a piece. I've heard others using moogs as well.

However, the stud diameter on these are slightly larger (just on the splines, not the threads, the stock nuts will fit), so if you want to install the 1/2" toytec spacer lift with the extended studs, it won't work.

Pressed out the rear bushings

Didn't need much pressure to press them out.

I didn't have a press, so I just used the 3/8" rod stock and bolts in the vise method. I used a 1 1/16" socket because it was cheaper that a 26 mm and a 19 mm socket on the other side. It worked pretty well. Only recommendation I have is to buy some stainless steel washers to back the sockets. The zinc ones totally failed and the galvanized ones didn't fair much better. I used a combo of stainless and galvanized and that did the trick.
