Tacoma whip modification question

i've left mine on through the car wash and it has never broken. i've had it on for ~8 years now and been through a few car washes.

if there are guys working the car wash and they take it off and hand it to me, great. but i usually don't worry about it if not.

Maybe I didn't state my question clear enough... 99% of all vehicles on the road have an antenna that you never have to think twice about breaking. You can literally fold them almost in half. If a lot of people who do the "Tacoma whip mod" say its a good idea to take it off before entering a car wash, to me that seems like a hassle and defeats the purpose of the mod to begin with.

So with that said, is there any antenna mod or what to fix "this" mod making it function like those other 99% of vehicles that have flexy antennas that don't have to worry about breaking?

still switch out the powered base with the non powered and just screw in any short or stubby antenna. the tacoma whip should give you better reception though.

Finally getting around to ordering the non-retracting antenna assembly, and the dealership did confirm that it doesn't come with the mast. Must buy that separately. I must have a dozen random antenna masts sitting around the shop so one of them must fit. :eyebrows:

So... my antennae snapped off inside the housing. There is a piece still down a good ways in the housing. Any ideas on how to get it out? the base of these antennas is very strong steel and inst very malleable via a dremel. Would really like to avoid spending another $50 on this part if possible.

thanks!

So instead of buying the silver mast could you buy a different aftermarket one? what size would it need to be to be able to screw in?
