I've scoured the forum thoroughly and come across little info on how the tailgate speakers are routed.
My understanding is that the non JBL units run from:
aftermarket Headunit > party mode switch > relays behind glove box > ??? >??? > tail gate.
I'm attempting to tap a small amp aftermarket amp into the tailgate speakers so that I can free up power to the rear door speakers (4 ohms). This way all (4) rear speakers can run at 4 ohms without sharing wattage.
My initial scheme was to make modifications to the relays behind the glove box but am hoping there's a easier location to tap into the factory wiring.
I don't want to run new wiring because looks like a lot more work
