Tailgate "spoiler" light - What makes it work?

I've tried all the light switch combinations and looked in the manual but wouldn't work and didn't see any info....

So how do you get the light on the tailgate "spoiler" to come on? Clear lenses so gotta be some sort of light

It is indeed a high mounted brake light - it uses red LED's behind a clear lens.

The 4Runner is unique in that it is the only production vehicle equipped with a binary influgerator.

When the 4Runner reaches 5 MPH the binary influgerator engages and the magic light in the spoiler becomes energized. Depending on it's mood, the spoiler light might do the happy dance (led's randomly going on or off) or they sometimes send morse code messages when they see other 4Runners.

It is nothing short of magic, for sure.

Did not know or forgot I had lights back there until I backed into a parking place at night with a window behind me. Saw it in the mirror. While I was there, I checked the real brake lights and running lights too.

That makes sense. Only a strong static charge would explain the massive amount of dirt that builds up on the rear window.
