I've tried all the light switch combinations and looked in the manual but wouldn't work and didn't see any info....
So how do you get the light on the tailgate "spoiler" to come on? Clear lenses so gotta be some sort of light![]()
It is indeed a high mounted brake light - it uses red LED's behind a clear lens.
Occured to me after posting. It's late, long day, took a while.
"An electric light is a device that produces visible light by the flow of electric current. It is the most common form of artificial lighting and is essential to modern society, providing interior lighting for buildings and exterior light for evening and nighttime activities" (And brake lights!)
The 4Runner is unique in that it is the only production vehicle equipped with a binary influgerator.
When the 4Runner reaches 5 MPH the binary influgerator engages and the magic light in the spoiler becomes energized.

When the 4Runner reaches 5 MPH the binary influgerator engages and the magic light in the spoiler becomes energized. Depending on it's mood, the spoiler light might do the happy dance (led's randomly going on or off) or they sometimes send morse code messages when they see other 4Runners.
It is nothing short of magic, for sure.
