Tailgate window problem

I've noticed a vertical streak of greasy smudge on the inside of the window. At first I thought it was just something on the weather stripping. Then I concluded it might be something internal that is rubbing when lowering the window. Now after a series of deductive reasoning I believe it is being caused by closing the tailgate when the window is already inside the tailgate. The window is jarred when the tailgate gets closed (slammed) and is getting against something inside the gate.

Should the gate only be closed when the window is in the upright position? Anybody else have this problem?

I get small scratches from all the dust here in my rear window. It makes me hesitate to roll it down very often. No matter how often you clean it, it will be dirty again in a day, if not in hours.

No idea about grease, haven't seen that, but I'd definitely run it by the dealer if I were you.

I just have a rule that nobody opens/closed tail unless window is up. Seems better balanced that way and you can feel window vibrate if it is open when you close it.
