Tall Guy Problems- Rear View Mirror Too Low

There are many problems that us tall guys have to deal with. Luckily, I barely fit in the 4Runner without my head rubbing on the roof. But I have noticed that I am having some vision problems with the rear view mirror. When coming to a 4 way stop if there is a small car to my right perpendicular, pulling up at same time sometimes they are hidden. Ect.
So my question is has anyone raised their rear view mirror in the 5th generations? If so would you mind describing how you did it. What solvents you used if any. Pictures are always appreciated as well.

haha I'm 6'4" just lower your seat a bit man... push down on the lever. I ride with my seat lowered all the way down and have tons of head room... Unless you're 7'? :high5: never had any issues with the mirrors...

... Ya definetly already tried that. Im 6'6" and yes its still a problem.

I'm only 6', but I like the mirror to be above my sight line also. I have just swiveled the base part attached to the window as high as it would go so the mirror is almost touching the roof. There is enough up travel in the mount I am actually looking at the bottom part of the overhead console bulges in the upper portion of that mirror now. There really isn't more than 1/2" above my mirror now before it contacts the head liner and that is taken up when I flip it to night mode.

Apologies if this wasn't helpful enough, but I'm not sure a full relocate will give you any more adjustment.

EDIT - 3wbdriver posted as I was running outside to see how much space I had above my mirror Good minds and all that jazz.

Not to second guess you, but are you aware the mirror is mounted using a dual-articulating arm, and can be pivoted upwards? While it won't quite get all the way up, mine is about 1.5" away from the sunglass storage thingy.

When I took delivery of the truck, it was basically located in the middle of the windshield!

Should mention I have the auto-dim mirror - but I believe all versions of the T4R rearview mirrors have the dual-articulating arm to allow some height adjustment.

Same with the seat - all the way down in the back (more headroom) and all the way up in the front for me (I like the reverse-rake seating style on our 5-Way seats - very reminiscent of my '87 1st gen's seating).

Should mention I have the auto-dim mirror - but I believe all versions of the T4R rearview mirrors have the dual-articulating arm to allow some height adjustment.

No dimming is adjustable as well.

My truck didn't come with an auto dim mirror but I installed one. When I had the windshield replaced they asked if I had an auto dim mirror and I said yes. Oddly enough the auto dim windshield had the mount lower down the windshield than my original. I'm not sure if that's standard across the line or just because it was a replacement windshield.

Might be worth looking into if you ever get a crack. The mirror is a bit hard to hook up with the non-auto dim glass.

I'm a LOT shorter than you, but this might help. I've been running these convex mirrors in all of my vehicles for a few years now. I have mine angled so that the DS edge cuts off at the edge of the rear window, allowing you to see all the way to the PS front/rear passenger shared window pillar. You get quite a view with minimal head movement. I canted mine all the way up, and sat up until my head hit the roof to simulate your conditions

My rear view is adjusted fine, I am 6'3". One thing though is that I don't care to see out of the top 1/8th or so of the back window as those cars are very far behind. The lower 7/8ths give me plenty of perspective to see cars far enough away.

And I purposely got the SR5 non-prem because of the extra headroom. The manual states only 3/4" more, but it certainly feels like a TON more.

Awesome news everyone. No I was not aware of the dual articulating arm on the mirror. Guess I wasn't being forceful enough wih it. Appreciate the help everyone.

This is very helpful. I had no idea either of the arm being adjustable. I'm 6' and I to find myself missing cars that are at a 4 way on the right. Worried I'm going to nail someone some day. Thx guys.

I can't believe I didn't see it had two adjustable ball joints on it. I've been hunching over at every stop light and stop sign to see traffic to my right....NO MORE! This is one of those little wins, but it has big effects.

Well, yes........ Ball joints at both ends of the arm from the windshield to the mirror. Just like I went out and looked at last night at 11 pm. Did you read mine and Randyman's replies above?

Confirmed. My Auto-Dim mirror was installed at the dealer - so I initially had the non-auto dim windshield with the higher mount. I've replaced the windshield twice since then, and opted for tor the "Auto Dim, Heated Wiper Park Area, Tinted" glass, and noticed this mirror mount placement discrepancy as well.

I was able to kiss the sunglass storage console with the stock "non auto-dim" windshield mirror mount placement, but now have approx 1.5" above the mirror with the "Auto Dim" spec'd windshield and its lower mirror mount placement. I'm not sure why this is done as the non-auto-dim windshield placement seemed to work fine with the auto-dim mirror add-on?

I go through windshields like butter, so I might investigate using a non auto-dim version next time.

I sent him a PM about using that bracket on a 4Runner and he said it had been attempt but was unsuccessful due to the windshield angle.

I've had 2 members try this bracket on their 4-runners without the full desired results. It fits but the windshield must have more of an angle.

I haven't looked into it any further but it would be nice to get something to raise the mirror even higher. I have the factory installed auto dimming mirror and even with it fully raised using both ball joints and with my seat all the way down the mirror still limits my vision out the front somewhat.

Yes I did. it was better then other vehicles I tested. And like I said the mirror blocking another car is very uncommon but it does happen. I just keep my head on a swivel. But trying to figure a way to not age to do that.
