The 3.4L TRD Supercharger Thread

Busted open my newly acquired supercharger tonight to replace the rear bearings. I hammered the old bearings out of the back successfully with a 1/2 drive extension. I got the new bearings installed with the "beating with the back of a socket method" and they seemed straight until I tried to turn the rotors after reinstalling. I heard some slight rubbing and I'm almost positive it is because I did not press them in straight enough. Is there a better recommended tool for this possess? What type of press would I need to 1) install the bearings and 2) make sure they r straight

Edit: Decided to sleep on it. Woke up and installed the nose cone today fine. Although I did manage to overtighten one of the nose cone bolts and strip the thread. and There is still a little bit of resistance when I turn the pulley ( not sure how much resistance is normal) . I guess there is no way to really tell if its working until i install it.

Shoot how are you gonna fix those threads? What torque value you gonna tighten it too?

Wow...that totally sucks you stripped out that bolt!

You can, but it's not pretty lol. I had a cr500 with the drain plug ripped from the bottom of the case. I welded it back up and re threaded it, but with the heat distortion I would advise against it unless absolutely necessary.
If you can get a helicoil in there though that's probably your best bet. Much stronger than the aluminum threads too.

I second the helicoil...it's been around for years and is a proven fix! The best part...you can do it youself. It's inexpensive, and takes all of 5 mins to do. Just my two cents.

Either way..wish you good luck!

Hey rus, how's the new charger doing for you?

We have her running and she pretty good, but still not 100%. Unfortunatley I've had a surgery on my eyes that was planned long before having issues with my T4R.

Right now my 2 biggest issues:

1 - at cold start up the engine will rev up to around 1500 RPM's and stay there until she gets warmed up and then she comes down to a normal idle.

2 - she drives OK. Not awesome, but not incredible horrible..no backfires, no pining. But when I throttle on (peddle to the floor) she doesn't go anywhere. She doesn't pickup any speed. If I let out of the throttle...and just slowly add throttle..she will comply and slowly pick up speed! Very frustrating...you add a supercharger and now you go slower..WTH!??!

I'm glad to entertain any and all suggestions, beliefs, opinions, and thoughts. It will just be a couple days before I can act on any of them...due to my surgery!

Just a reminder: I replaced my TB and everything that goes with it at the same time. Also replaced valve cover gasket on both sides, headers, and add a drip can in the PVC line and its a closed system. I've heard some say I should use the filter on top of can...but that would make it an open system, which seem like that would be a vacuum leak. So I closed the filter hole. Hope this helps.

Hey thank you shootmymime for asking!! I appreciate the thoughts!!

Cheers!

Hey guys...since I last posted, I couldn't sleep. I just got thinking about my S/C and it not running right...and why?

I then remembered that before installing the S/C, I knew it was going to be only a short time before I add the 2.2 pulley and my 7th injector kit from URD. So I went a head removed the EGR block off plate and installed the actual fuel injector out of the 7th injector kit. I figured this would save me a difficult to reach install step...later down the road.

Now I did not add the fuel line to the injector! Do yall think this could be a huge vacuum leak?? I'm really thinking I should finish installing the fuel lines and what not. What do yall think about this?

Although I did spray carb cleaner around the engine looking for vacuum leaks...which I found none. And I do remember spraying the 7th injector?? Any thoughts guys??

Thanks again...

1. My thought are AIC valve is staying closed. Or your check valve is installed wrong.

2. Mass air flow.
Pull your efi fuse for a min to reset fuel trims.

I think the biggest issue here is eye surgery! Sounds painful.

I would not worry too much about any of the issues you are having, they are non-issues or quick fixes.

1. High idle when cold is completely normal, it's supposed to do that. Mine's in the 1400 range when I start it up in 40* weather.

2. If heavy throttle slows it down, your belt is slipping. Look for oil or coolant on the supercharger belts and pulleys. You could take the belt off, clean down the pulleys with rubbing alchohol/water mix (could wipe down the belt too). If you have the static pulley, you may need to adjust the tension. Or get a dynamic pulley.

3. If you injector was sucking in air, it's defective. Think about it: if it leaks air at atmospheric pressure, what would happen when you put a 30+ PSI fuel line on it? It would leak like mad and just dump gas uncontrollably into the engine.

Just a question... are you on any pain meds? I had surgery about a month ago and they gave me some nasty pain meds. I hated taking them since it caused anxiety, and I'm not an anxious person. But I hated the intense pain more than I did the anxiety so I took them lol.

I think your supercharger is doing just fine.

How do I do this? With the key on - engine off?? Sorry never done this before.

Thanks you!

Thank you sir for your response...it's much appreciated!!

1) I guess this makes sense...I'm just refusing to admit winter is here..hahaha

2) I have a new belt...I'll put it on. Never thought about that!

3) talked to a buddy about this earlier today...he said the same thing. I quickly said "Duh!!!!"!!!

And yes you are correct...lots of pain meds. Hate the way I feel. Can't think for nothing! So..I'm not going to do anything until I'm off these Meds. That way I can stop and think clearly!!

You guys are my heros!! :reddance:

LOL yeah your last post sounded a little paranoid. I hated the cloudy head feeling. My wife would ask me what I wanted to eat for dinner and all I could do was give her a blank stare with my mouth agape... words just didn't happen. You'll be back and at it in no time though.

I'm on page 11 so bear with me. I had a question about digital gauges. I was looking into boost and trans temp gauges, but those with the pod start adding up quick and so I started looking into digital readings.

Is anyone here running the DashCommander app to get their boost readings? I'm just wondering how effective or accurate it would be just going through OBD/ECU readings and not direct. If it's a suitable option I would love to get a small tablet installed to permanently display all of the readings. Thanks!
