The 3.4L TRD Supercharger Thread

So this is one heck of an informative thread! As much as I love the benefits of the meth injection I don't know that I feel like filling up that tank every time I get gas. Is it really that often? And is windshield washer fluid REALLY an option?

Next question here -- RE: the URD 7th kit: has anyone had success with this kit without changing their fuel pump? I don't like the idea of putting in a Walbro that is loud when your fuel level gets low (this feels like a downgrade in quality). I understand that there are Denso pumps (from an EVO) that would be the best of both worlds (more flow, stock quality / quietness) but even the whole installation process appears to be a dangerous pain. If I can get away without changing it with the 2.2" pulley then count me in! :clap2:

Anyone?
 
The tank is pretty easy to drop. Just do it when you have low fuel! And if your truck isn't rusty, all the better. Only takes me about an hour to do the fuel pump

ive got the 2.2, stock pump. 4500 elevation. i have the walbro 190 pump sitting in my office at home. just havnt needed it yet. but at lower elevation this summer i could have used some more fuel. elevation up here i dont need it.

but you might be fine. but its good that you know its something you MIGHT need. id say run without it, if you need it. throw one in.

Depends on the meth system you buy. I like the SnowPerformance one I have because it reads the MAF and only turns on at a certain value. Then it ramps as flow increases. I fill my reserve about every other week.
And yes windshield washer fluid + a bottle of HEET Fuel Treatment (yellow bottle) per 1/3 gallon works great. I've been running it for 80,000 miles with zero problems.
 
This will probably go down as the dumbest question ever asked but what result would come from running E85 in a S/C truck?

Here is where my stupid question comes from: I was watching Fast 'n Loud as some Monday night escapism and they built a drag car using an old Dart and a new Hellcat drivetrain. They mention in passing that they are running E85 for more power. My pea brain made the connection - supercharged and E85 must be better??

Thoughts? Feel free just to revoke my access to T4R if it is that dumb of a question??

Absolutely! Its an awesome way to make power lol. Way better than meth in certain ways. We have talked about it earlier in the thread I know and a lot in the AEM FIC 6 thread.
 
Short answer. It burns much colder. Reducing pre detonation and able to further change your timing for more power. But it has its disadvantages. It is about 30% less powerful per BTU compared to gasoline so you have to run more of it. At times fuel injectors are not able to flow as much as the vehicle requires thus causing lean conditions.

Hmmmm - I tried searching this thread for E85 and it gave me a "no results" response. I'll manually search. Bet I'm going to wish I had the AEM and not the URD/AIC module now.

Thanks! I've done the 318CC injectors with the larger Walburo fuel pump so I'm guessing I could make flow...but worse gas mileage is not appealing.
Might be fun for a tank or two though. See how much adjustment I can actually get out of the URD kit.

Yeah it's gonna be really tough to tune properly with the URD setup. Be careful if you try and be sure to richen up your fuel tables right off the bat good luck!

It's not less "powerful" instead it contains less energy, which doesn't seem like a big difference but in the big picture is. It burns significantly cooler like you said and you can pretty much run as much boost as ya like/the block can handle. Also as you said you can advance timing without conscience
 
I think I'll steer clear of it for now. Too many other areas of the rig I want to mess with first. Since I haven't had to change my map in 3 years might as well just roll with the good luck. Plus I'm sure it would end up like the supercharger where you spend days and dollars chasing down the next weakest link in the drivetrain.
 
I've found another noise in my Supercharger. I'm still waiting for the bypass valve actuator so I haven't driven it yet. I decided to start it up anyway because it was sitting for week. So the noise can only be heard if I close (boost) the bypass lever by hand but if its open (no boost) no noise. I'm thinking if its a rear bearing the noise would be heard regardless of what happens to the bypass valve. I've attached a video, you can barely hear it there but you can tell the difference.

Anyone has a number for the rear bearings? Or the size of them? Im going to try and get it from a local bearing place, they can usually get any bearing.

By now I know one of them is shot for sure, so I'm going to replace both. The rotor pack bearings seem to make no noise so I'm still contemplating whether I should do those as well.

One more thing. Have anybody ever installed a grease fitting for the rear bearings? Just thought it would extend their life quite a bit.
