Which generation SC? On the 2nd/4th gen (black), they need to be pulled out from the front.
I used a screwdriver to remove the needle bearings and cages, and then used a blind hole puller to yank the rest of the bearing. Tapped the new bearings in with the large end of a 1/2" drive extension. Here's a pic of the puller in action:
I've been browsing around about the trd supercharger for quite some time and have really been wanting to get one. The only thing I'm concerned about is my 4runner is my DD. I plan on picking up a new runner in mid 2018 or early 2019 depending on how the flight school schedule goes, so I need a properly operating vehicle between now and then.
I have a few questions for those who have one and are in the know.
Has it affected reliability of your vehicle at all?
Is it really as foolproof to install as it appears?
Is it worth installing on a stock, original parts engine/vehicle with 200k miles, or am I just asking for repercussions from the extra stress? I'd say the vehicle has been decently taken care of, but it's not perfect. There's some tapping sound at low rpm under load which I believe to be the valves, but I'm not positive.
Torque on the nut isn't the problem. Torque to oppose the rotation of the shaft is what I can't seem to get enough of. Everything just spins with the nut because there is no way to apply enough torque on the shaft opposite the direction of the nut.
I attempted to rebuild my SC this past weekend. The nut was easy to get off with an impact. While I had the snout off I just wrapped a rag around the pulley and hit the nut with the impact and it came right off. The snout bearings were fairly easy, however the rotor bearings in the back of the case were not. In fact they are still there, or what is left of them, anyway. The one on the right does not push through, so I am going to have to go to a machine shop and see if they can work some magic to get it out. Tried with a 20 ton press and a BFH and nothing, other than pieces of needle bearing everywhere. The one on the left, closest to the TB, the back broke out of it. I am going to let the professionals handle that part. I think the one on the left would push through but the right hole must not go through.
I'm using a Stant 14077 170 degree thermostat. Keeps the engine around 179-181 according to the OBD2, which is maybe a little too cool (stayed around 190 with the stock thermostat). What brand thermostat is everyone running...
I am preparing to replace my radiator and install a trans cooler...
Just wondering what everyone is running since I will be changing it during that process...

I'm using the "fancy" TRD one that was way more money than it needs to be. I'd go with the basic Stant one if he says it works fine.
I don't know my exact temp but even with the 2nd gen smaller radiator my gauge runs cooler than it did with the standard thermostat.
....remember there's hundreds of thousands of dollars and man hours in research and development in these rigs. It's called "normal operating temperature" for a reason and colder is not always better. There is a limit to how cool you want it to run....
So again, I'd go with the Stant as suggested
Good luck
Motorad made the TRD thermostats.
The 170degree is part number 281-170. $13.28 on Amazon
What temperature are we trying to achieve with this thermostat when running a SC?
&
What radiator cap did you switch too?
Same question for you 4Reak Show

That's the question. I've searched these forums and people use anywhere from 305 cc Supra injectors to 500 cc racing injectors.
If you change the injectors than an ECU management or piggyback is almost necessary if you want to pass emissions (not sure what your state requires) since it runs the risk of running rich when not in boost. That's why I'm leaning towards a meth kit, much easier to control since there's no injection when not under boost.
I'd like to get my urd 7th injector kit installed. I can probably do it but I don't have space nor the tools to do it right. Are there any shop you guys can recommend near Los Angeles area I can give a call? I already have sc installed so I just need to add URD kit + 2.2 pulley. Thanks in advance.
Ok so where to get these injectors? I do not have to worry about emissions. I have the blower off and I have done the valve covers so I am ready to put it all back together. I will add the AEM, I think, to tune it.
Ack! Help!
So after having cleaned my SC last week and changing the oil, my 4runner wont run. its super chuggy at idle and dies after revving once or twice on its own and doesn't smooth out until over 1500 rpm. Ive checked my vacuum connections and they seem good. All the electrical I can see is plugged in. No check engine light BTW.
Any thought on where to start trouble shooting?
At 0:25 I start pressing the gas pedal and hold the high idle manually. At 0:57, it revs all by itself.

Edit:
This is probably far fetched, but...
While doing my UCAs yesterday, this fell out of nowhere somewhere on the drivers side of the engine bay.
Don't know if it could possibly have anything to do with it
