I love this truck.

I had a 4th Gen Sport Edition prior to this gen in Upstate New York. So to say I have snow experience would be an understatement.

When it finally snowed this past week in Kansas City I was beyond ecstatic. The 5th Gen is a beast in the snow.

Now, my 5th Gen is lifted with GY duratrac tires...so it's not a healthy comparison. But here's what I do know:

5th Gen is lighter
4th Gen / 5th Gen: Stability control interference is the same and both are unwanted.

4WD System is awesome

that's about it for now.

Agreed- mine far exceeds my expectations for snow even with the factory tires.

While testing the Mallfinder, I was just thinking how much I missed the 4R in deep snow a few weeks ago.....

I agree that the 5th gen is great in the snow. I haven't had to use 4wd on the roads at all because the traction and stability control is awesome. I live in upstate NY, they do good at keeping the roads clear. Would love to take it off road in the snow but nothing good around me...

I agree. The 5th Gen kicks my 4th Gens butt. To be fair, my 13 had Duratracs. The 4th Gen had Nitto's. Can the weight make that much difference? I also love the lever in the Trail Edition!

So disappointed with the new Pathy. I had an 05 SE-Off Road that I really liked, but I wasn't going to stick with Nissan given the new [car] design. So 13' Trail Edition it is!

I had to edit my post. If the 5th Gen is heavier, I can't tell. Feels lighter driving it. I don't know what it is between the 120 / 150 but the 4th Gen just felt more substantial.

I really need to do some electrical modifications and get the stability and traction control buttons to turn them off.

Another 10" of snow projected tomorrow.

if you hold down the overhead "VSC (or TRAC?) OFF" button for ~3 secs while stopped it will turn off both VSC and TRAC until you switch off the ignition.

Doesn't re-engage at a certain speed? If so then this is wonderful news.

nope. i believe the speed-centric thing is that button will turn off VSC—only VSC—if you're traveling under 35. you have to be stopped and hold the button down to turn off both VSC and TRAC. :driving:

You are correct. I had to use this last year when I was taking a winter driving course on a frozen lake. We were allowed to use 4HI but no other nannies. Drifting a 4Runner is tons of fun

I rolled thru the Midwest storm this past week without a problem. I travelled from Des Moines on down to KC and then Wichita in the worst of the weather. Cars and trucks were stuck everywhere.:smow: The 4R plowed thru without fail - it was awesome.

If you had the V8, I think that would explain it. Heavier steering feel due to both full-time 4WD and, I assume, weight balanced slightly more to the front.

If you had the V6, I'm at a loss.

I agree that the traction control and stability control are pretty excellent on the 5th gen. I rarely have to put it in 4WD because it is such a predictable, easy to drive vehicle in the snow.

Went snow bashing today - with the rear locker on and a lot of skinny pedal, I (barely and sideways) made it through some 4-5 foot snow drifts on top of about 2 feet of fresh powder.

Same here...after totaling my 10' Off Road I looked at the Pathfinder and couldn't have been more underwhelmed. What a boring SUV. The Nissan design team may have been on drugs when they ok'd this thing. Looks like a mini van

I live about 20 miles SW of Wichita. I used our Tundra during the storm because I didn't think the factory tires on the 4runner would do much in the snow. We have approx a foot on the ground with more due later Monday. This is the most snow I've seen in 17 years here. I grew up in upstate NY so I'm no stranger to this type of WX.
