Toyota makes a handful of "standard" builds for each model in each region of the country. For example, in the Midwest, there are currently 4 such configurations for the V6 Limited, and 6 configurations for the V8 Limited. So, it's true that you can't hand-pick your own set of options and necessarily expect to find a car that way on the lot. These standard builds are what you'll find in stock on dealer lots or being delivered in the next few weeks. Of course, you can special order anything from the factory, but you're looking at waiting about 4 months.

You can find out what the standard builds are in your area by doing the "Build and Price Your 4Runner" thing on Toyota's Web site. Go to the 4Runner area, and then you'll see the menu bar along the left side. It will ask for your ZIP code - that tells the system which region you're in.

As for colors, that's pretty much luck of the draw. Getting the color you want with the option package you want might be tricky, or it might be real easy. Any Toyota dealer can tell you what's available and what's coming off the boat at the port in the next 3-4 weeks.

Thanks for the reply,
Went to the build yor own site and it seems that a 4X4 SR5 V8 in my area is not avaliable! (11554).
Found this to be very frustrating, I went over the options and all, I figured the truck the way I wanted just to find out that the 4runner brochure is published for all the regions and that options may not necessarily be available for a certain geographical area.

It's frustrating , there was a few more option's I would have wanted , but none to be found , so I took the closest thing on the lot. Very happy with it. The other thing's (mainly one ) I could live without.

good luck and keep us posted

That's really interesting...
The Web site is also very dynamic! I was basing the above configurations on research done just last month. At this moment, there are still 4 option combos for the V6 Limited, but only 3 for the V8 Limited in Chicago. They took away the V8 combos with either the 3rd row seat or X-REAS.

Why does Toyota do this? I bought my '06 sport about a week ago and I really wanted to get one with the JBL audio system.....but the only thing I could find anywhere was a package with sunroof, trailer hitch and daytime running lights. That was all I could do on the Toyota website as well. Seems like an odd combo to me and it seems like Toyota could easily sell the audio systems if they had them available. Like my 4runner a lot though....and I can always upgrade the audio system myself.

You are going to have a hard time finding an SR5 V8 in the tri state area. I was looking for one back in 2003 and wasn't successful. For some reason, they don't ship them to the east coast because there is not a high demand for them. Especially with gas prices the way they are, you will even have a harder time locating a V8 in general. My advice to you is go with a V8 Sport. Tell the salesman that you really wanted a V8 SR5, but are willing to settle for the V8 Sport if the price is right. If I can ask, what part of the tri-state area are you from?

When I bought my 06 SE V8 back in October I had to have it dx'd from NE PA to Westminster, MD. There were only 2 in the entire Central Atlantic Area. When I drove it off the lot it already had 280 miles on it from the transfer. Talk to the salesman and try to widen the search area. If you want my opinion, though.. step up and get the sport. You won't regret it.
