I opted to straddle the drainage ditch and take the line to the left...Half way up, the 4Runner slipped sideways and fell in. Not a lot of side grip on the OEM tires.

"The Rockies"...more than just a catchy name

Honestly, this is VERY steep...not rock climbing steep where you'd be worried about slipping backwards...but steep enough to get your attention.

The funny part is just how much you CANNOT see over this long hood. You pick your line 15 feet out in front of you, but if you look out a side window or stop to take a picture, its easy to forget what the line is right beneath you...next comes the painful sound of skidplate on rock.

This one almost looks like a commerical...if you photo-shop Adam out of the pic. He was unable to ride motorcycles on this day due to an eye infection. It pretty much screwed up his entire week.

The road is much easier from the east. I saw a guy with a flat bed Dodge double-cab duallie going up and over.

Next stop was the pseudo-ghost town of St. Elmo...awful lot of traffic for a "ghost town"

Chipmunk feeding is big business in St. Elmo...this guy is the president of the local Chamber of Commerce

Nice pictures. The steepness of the trails never come out right in my pictures either. I would have been worried about puncturing the stock tires more than anything else.

The road to Cottonwood Pass was not exactly demanding as evidenced by the number of RVs at the top. However, the curves were fun and the views were good so its hard to complain. Besides, we were so stuffed from lunch that nobody was looking for the constant bouncing of a rocky trail.
