The first 3 weeks of ownership

Believe it or not, most of these are from a simple iPhone6. I have a Canon Rebel and a bag full of lenses, but the iPhone pictures generally come out just as good...at least for my unsophisticated purposes. It's much easier to just pull it out of my pocket, point, and shoot. I also really like the panoramic function. I take a ton of those.

That was the first time in 43 years that I've ever gone on a road trip with my father. I was headed out to Colorado to meet some friends for a week of riding in the mountains and he volunteered to ride along in case I was seriously injured and needed someone to drive me home. I then added a couple days onto my trip to show him some sights before meeting the guys in Gunnison. Generally speaking, we had a good time...no deep conversations about the meaning of life or lessons learned from his 65 years on the planet, but we did eat a ton of chicken-fried steak and shared 80 hours of the History of Howard Stern...so there's that.

Someone asked me about the location of the fill valves for the air bags. I didn't put a hug amount of thought into it beynd wanting them to be reasonably accessible without poking through any painted or metal pieces. The black plastic behind the rear wheel wells felt like a low risk area where nobody would ever notice a couple extra 1/4" holes.

Glad you enjoyed your trip to Colorado and the west brother. I am a Colorado native and I still am not bored with the beauty of the place. Hell, both John Denver and The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band even wrote songs about Colorado. 
It's also said that Colorado had some inspiration for Crosby, Stills and Nash as Judy Collins grew up here (Suite: Judy Blue Eyes) and was Stills girlfriend. We also spawned Firefall and Caribou Ranch was where many famous artists recorded their songs - from Elton John to Supertramp. Lots of musical history here for sure.
St. Elmo is a cool town with loads of mining history. Unfortunately there was a fire in 2002 and several of the historic building burned to the ground. You can read the history here: St. Elmo History
You are also correct about purpose built 4 wheel drives here. There are a lot of people that are extremely serious off-roaders and their machines are built for performance off-road, not to impress the kid down the street. The old FJ's are extremely popular here (albeit they are getting very rare) but I have seen some very, very nice owns running around.
4Runners are also extremely popular here and you just won't find many Trails sitting on a dealer lot. Most are sold before they get off the transport truck or the day after, as mine was.

Mt. Evans was closed for the month of July...huge disappointment as this is one of my favorite spots in Colorado...so we went to Georgetown and up Guanella Pass to view Mt. Evans from the west. It's a much better view from the top, but still not terrible from the pass.

Aspen, CO...I have no idea why I ended up with these photos...I can only assume that the high altitude and the contact high from the omnipresence of legalized marijuana made these trees far more captivating in real life.

I've owned the 4Runner for 6 months and 12,000 miles now. So far, I like everything about this truck except for some random noises. I chased down a jingling noise coming from the c-clips on the upper control arms and fixed those. Now I have this weird clicky-creaky-ticky noise coming from the driver's side door/A-pillar area. It's so frustrating. It's not coming from the mirror and it doesn't have any kind of pattern to it. It's not really speed dependent and road surface doesn't seem to be a factor. In fact, its more apparent on smooth roads and sub-highway speeds where there are no other noises to mask it. I know I should just turn on the radio, but its maddening in its randomness. It's not affected by pressure on the glass, folding the mirror in, or lowering the window an 1/8th of an inch. It just keeps mocking me.
Otherwise, super good. I'm planning another cross-country jaunt for next summer.
