Got my rack and it has been sitting for a few days while I get the time to install it. More specifically...get the time to get help in case I run in to trouble. I've mentioned I'm not mechanically inclined, so I have another question for the group.

Directions say to use some silicone when bolting the side rails on to keep it waterproof. Husband recommends 3M Marine Adhesive Sealant Fast Cure 4200; he even fished some out of the shop for me. He's a pretty smart guy....but should I follow the directions or follow his recommendation? Either?

you'll want something that remains flexible because things are going to move and also expand and contract with temps

the 3M marine adhesive says it remains flexible, so it may be okay, but if everyone else is using silicone and has some longer term feedback that it works to me that seems like the better way to go

I posted this in the What did you do... thread, but figured it belongs here too. LFD 3/4 rack on my 5th Gen. Perfect size for what I need, and strong! No noise from the rack either.

As long as you get the caulk/sealant around the holes without gaps you shouldn't have any issues. I dont know how fast "fast drying" is, so Id just make sure you get the spacers on before the caulk dries.

Your rack looks great!, I ordered the 7/8 rack because I have no sun roof. still have a couple weeks to go to get mine .... why does time go by sooooo slow when your excited about getting something HAHA

This is the only one I have at the moment. None of us even have one installed yet on ours, we cant keep them in stock long enough to claim one for ourselves...

I really dig the look of that! Im kicking my self, I should have ordered this skid at the same time I ordered my rack so I could have them both at the same time

Too true! I really had to work at not bugging Jacob so much about the delivery date, so I think I only asked twice! Thanks - the rack does look great and is perfect for what I need. Installation isn't bad even if you're solo...just block out a couple of hours and you'll be set!

yeah I wont bug Jacob, I still have few weeks left anyway. I wonder if the 7/8 rack is as quiet as yours? I will see soon enough

X-Bulls were $65 on Amazon this past Friday when I ordered, back up to $78 now...

Got mine in a couple of days ago. Exactly the same as XBull in black. $45 total. Didn't come with a bag but I don't need one.

I think the 3/4 sits far enough back on the roof that the airflow just goes over the top of it. I hope the 7/8 is as quiet!

My 7/8ths rack arrived yesterday. I'm going to either install it tonight or tomorrow. I'm as giddy as a school girl!

How funny, im 63 and still act all giddy when I get new toys !! Your rack looks great! How is the wind noise at high speeds?

Got my LFD cross members for the 4th gen sport and they're sweet! Patiently waiting for LFD to make the 4th gen tube bumper.. I volunteer to be the prototype.

I have 4 crossbars and tried moving them around but nothing seems to make much difference.

I have 2 crossbars on the factory rails and there was some noise. I just got the wind fairing installed and its like stock again. I’d definitely recommend the wind fairing.

Installed a 100W solar panel on the rack, recessed so I can still carry lumber or plywood without the solar panel being in the way.

[MENTION=171879]mteolus[/MENTION] you can see 2 of the SS carriage bolts in this pic I use for my x-bulls (i'm not sure i understood the other comment about saving time with 5/16 threaded rod, the carriage bolts just slide right through the slot and just need a couple washers and lock washer to secure them. the slot is the size of the square part of the carriage bolt so you only need 1 tool)

I attached the panel by drilling holes in the side of the crossbar through the side of the panel frame and attached with ss button head screws and used spacers when lining things up to make sure the panel was slightly recessed. I installed with the crossbars off the car and then installed the full assembly into the rack to make it easier to get things lined up, but now that holes are drilled if I ever need to remove or replace the panel I can leave the crossbars in place.

The shark fin is still there, the LFD rack clears it, although the panel there probably compromises satellite radio performance a bit (just a guess, I dont use sat radio)

From an aero perspective it would be better to have the panel at the front and hi lift and stuff in the back, but IMO access is easier in the front since you can stand on the sliders and door sills so I wanted to leave that area open to mount everything and put this in the least convenient area. I could mount whatever I wanted over the panel though, its recessed and doesnt block anything.

Couldn't find the 3/8" threaded knobs at Home Depot or Loews. So I ordered some from Amazon. Hope they work.

That is correct! The 5/16 clamping nut wont be able to screw down all the way with the xbull. I can take pictures of the set up later today

Modified it though so i could use a bigger bolt to hold it down (#10 i think)
