The LFD Off Road Thread

Got a great deal on these LFD crossbars. Was able to mount the traction boards using carriage bolts and plastic knobs for easy removal. I noticed the LFD website doesn’t offer full length rails, any idea of this will be a future option?

That's odd - mine works great and I routinely drive 80mph.
They still sell them - in accessories brackets and mounts.
Which one do you have?
Not 100% sure which one I have - I got it in person at an event.
Mine has 4 bolts (similar to the 2010-2013 model on their site).
No flex but the bolts can be in the way depending on how I lay things out.
I suspect they've tweaked the design over time to address different issues.
2 bolts opens up space (maybe some flex?).
And the final/best design is the integrated.

Yep that's the one I have:
LFD Off Road - Wind Faring

Plan is to buy the integrated one and move the front bar back.

It possible if I had the front crossbar in the marked locations it wouldn't vibrate / bounce off the roof like mad. But then I wouldn't be able to use it to mount my traction boards. Doesn't make any sense to constantly reposition these things.

The full length rack requires new cross bars in addition to the rails as it is ~5" wider. If you look at the bends in the rails; the 3/4 & 7/8 go in, the full length goes out.

It comes with longer bolts - M12-1.75 x 35mm - and you reuse the nut and washers from the winch kit.

Cool, thanks. I just ordered the Factor 55 Prolink Loaded from the Walmart website (some other company is selling it) for $114. No shipping, no tax. Only color was silver but I am fine with that.

What Anand said - we've had the LFD Off Road Full Length Roof Rack for 2 years now, and we absolutely love it.

Yep, I'm just over 2 years with my full length rack and literally cannot say enough good things about it. The truck lives outside 24/7, doesn't get babied, and has carried all sorts of things on the rack without a single issue.

Haha the goal was to keep my existing crossbars and not have to buy all new as I already dumped $300 lol. I may just have my local fabricator make some custom rails.

Cool on the license plate holder. I was barely able to get the fairlead on as the bolt was barely long enough to fit the flat washer and lock washer on. Maybe the lock washer will be smashed down a bit so I can fit the license plate holder on it. If not I'll have to get rid of the lock washer and hope it stays on.

Good to know about the floppy bumper. There is one place where I can put a zip tie from the bumper to a hook (I think the tie down hook) but I may just leave it and see what happens.

By the way, where did you mount the control box?

I left it on top of the winch.
You can see it in the pic above centered 1/2 behind the grill.
Attaching the controller got to be annoying fishing my hand under and trying to get it lined up.
Sometimes I had trouble and I'd try from the top...
So I bought a 3' extension that I leave plugged in always and then can easily grab the other end for the controller.
It cost like $15-$20.
You can see that to that right next to the winch.
I usually tuck it under when not using it, it has a waterproof cap just like the controller.
Definitely worth it when its dark, everything is covered in mud, ...

Ahh yes, I see it now. Good thing about mine is it came with a breather that I ran up along the wires to the top part of the engine bay so will have no issues with water.

I gotcha. Another option would be to sell the crossbars you have right now.

I sold my shorter crossbars locally when I upgraded and made back everything I had in them.

I installed my LFD skids and they did not come with any instructions, which was not really an issue, but i have a few questions.

Where the transmission skid and transfer case skid connect, there is that frame support bar, was i supposed to remove that and bolt the skids directly to the frame? See Pic 1 for better idea of what I am talking about.

Second question. I installed a diff drop and I just noticed the bottom of the diff is touching the front skid (See pic 2). Is this an issue?

Finally, the transfer case skid has that tab the sits under the frame. I know from other posts that it is not going to sit flush. Is the gap supposed to be this big (see pic 3)?

Appreciate the help and insight!

#1: no you can keep those
#2: for safety I added aluminum spacers to give some clearance
#3: not sure sorry I don't have that

Did you add the spacers on the four bolt holes for the front skid?

Appreciate your help!

I have a TRD skid plate but I'm sure it applies to LFD as well, but yes all 4 because you want to keep the same distance at each corner otherwise you might screw the skid plate in crooked and damage the thread in the frame.

What size carriage bolts did you use? That’s a nice clean look!

Frame supports stay on.
I also have a diff drop but don’t think it makes contact like that. I’ll double check when my wife gets back from work with the 4R.
Gap between the tabs and frame can probably vary to some degree. As long as it’s how LFD designed it, as I’ve read, I wouldn’t worry about it. Mine was a PITA to get on and off.

I wish I could be of more help, but I don't have the diff drop as I am at the edge of my lift height where I was told it wasn't necessary.

As for the cross member supports in the back, I left them in place and bolted my skid plates on top (er... underneath?) those.

This is a bit of a random question. Anybody have any 5th Gen wide crossbars or the integrated wind fairing crossbar on order from LFD and know what the wait time is these days?

They both show backordered and before I jakeleg myself for two months I'll look at another option if it's going to take forever to get them.

Anyone waiting right now?

I ordered the Rugged Crossbar bundle 1-14-2021 and they were at my door on 2-9-2021. 2 day’s shy of 4 weeks! Quality is Very Nice.
