Ok great. How is the wind noise without the stripping without your Pelican (if you remember). How is it with the Pelican?

I’m not that concerned about noise when I have a box up top. But I’d like to have minimal noise when there is no box.

no problem, unloaded with faring without the stripping there is virtually no noise. to me, with radio off, no other passengers in the car I cannot hear any incremental noise vs. no cross bars. I didn't test with the stripping, I was happy without it so I left it off

with both pelicans up there you can start to hear some incremental noise at maybe the 80mph to 90mph range but it is very reasonable. again, radio off, no other passengers in the car. this is really going to depend where you position your case front to back, if there are crosswinds, what type of case you have etc. what might be loud to one person may not be to someone else. and again, I'm running two cases not one. my wife rides with me in the 4runner sometimes and sometimes she takes it on her own. she's never made any comments about wind noise regardless of what is up there and her daily driver is an RX which is very quiet

Awesome! I am OK with some noise. I am not agitated easy. I also have the TRD exhaust, which I am content with. So glad to hear there is not loud howl or anything at speeds below 80 MPH. I would rarely hit 80 on the vehicle (Los Angeles).

Has anyone installed Thule Hullavator on the LFD crossbars? The Hullavator need a 4” extension beyond the side rail.

I don’t want to add thule mounts on top of the side rails due to the cost and additional height.

I’m thinking about just drilling through the Thule crossbars I’m removing from my FJ and mounting them directly to the top of the LFD crossbars I’m planning to add to the 4Runner. Would be much less expensive and minimal height increase above the side rails.

This would also give me the flexibility to remove the Thule/LFD combo bars for the winter and leave the stock LFD bars on ten side rails.

Have had the full stainless rack a few months now and so far so good. Been through dozens of car washes and no leaks and any new wind noise is practically non existent.

I replaced my stock 4th gen 4r sport crossbars with LFD + faring. It's noisier than stock, there's a lower frequency "whoosh" on the highway. In all fairness, stock are oval/aero and the LFD are rectangular, so there's not much you can do in the tradeoff of strength vs aesthetics.

I've actually experienced no noise with my faring installed. This is a 5th Gen. I have the front faring pushed all the way to the front, and 1 bar pushed as far back as it will go. Two LFD bars is enough for my needs (Roam cargo box). Perhaps if I installed more bars I'd get noise?

I don't do rock crawling or any serious overlanding. I'll see snow for maybe two weeks per year. So no recovery gear needed. I just allocate the roof for long cargo boxes.

same, empty bars no noise at all. I have my setup the same way. front faring all the way to the front, and one bar all the way to the back. 2 remaining bars I move as needed

By the way, appreciate your advise on the mounting of the box for easy removal. Right now I just have the ends of 4 bolts sticking out upward from underneath the LFD bars. I have washers and a nut on top keeping the bolts in place. Then I throw washers on top of the nut (instead of an aluminum piece like you are using) and then my cargo box on top of the washers, then use a washer and nut on the inside of the box to secure it.

The one thing I am grateful for with this set up is there is no wind/air pocket with the box being mounted past the front faring. The washers and the nut on top of my bars is thick, so air is not getting trapped between the box and faring. The box looks like it's sitting on the bars, but it's not. It slightly floats above them so air can flow underneath rather that get trapped. I am getting VERY low wind noise when the box is mounted. Love it.

Im glad I could help. I have these screw thread protectors that I put on the tops of the exposed threads when the boxes are off. if you plan to run without a box for a while look into these. they also protect from accidental cuts and scraps from those big m8 bolts when you're doing anything on the roof as well. ya Im surprised the wind noise is very low with the boxes mounted. the air pocket I think helps

I use metric hardware. in canada I have to buy that on amazon because home depot and lowe's don't always have the best selection of metric fasteners. if you don't have a box or have something that needs a special mounting surface and can't lay on the bars directly just pick up an accessory mounting plate from LFD. attach the item to the plate, plate to the bars

to attach things to the bars, I'd use m8 hardware, stainless steel if you dont mind the extra cost. the m8 hardware will be more than enough strength to handle whatever you put up on the roof

Accessory Mounting Plate – LFD Off Road

Some of the thule boxes have a centre and outer portion that hangs lower for extra storage. unless you have only two cross bars you might not be able to mount one to a rack unless it's short

this is what I'm talking about. you might not be able to fit thule force or motion on a rack. if you currently have a thule box on your rack which one is it?

This style box is very similar to the Yakima CBX series. In order to clear the rear hatch, I had to slide the front crossbar in the foremost position, leaving no room for the wind fairing - while tolerable for 1-2 hrs, it wasn't on my recent 2000 mile road trip.

I've seen a lot of people posting with the Motion/Force in size L, but has anyone had luck with their XL on a 7/8 or full rack? I have the CBX 18, which is similar in size. Would be great to hear feedback from anyone who was able to get their box mounted on a 7/8 or full rack, given the recessed design of the 'claws'
