The mysterious mirror hole.

What is this for? It's a hole in the bottom of the mirror housing that is covered with a stout piece of plastic......is it for a light on a Limited?

This is a '99 SR5.

I have a '99 Limited - mine doesn't have the cover - it's an access hole for a screw, but not sure what it's for.

I always though it was a drain on my 96. Mine is just a hole, no cover, when I was my car it drains all the water out that hole.

Thanks for the replies folks. I can't imagine it's for drainage since the mirror isn't sealed in the housing. I can look under the mirror between the housing and glass and see hole. Very odd.

I am going to install an LED light there that turns on when the door opens to illuminate the ground around the area. For some reason I am on a serious LED kick right now.......
