The NEST - Bluetooth - Radio shutting off

So this past weekend I installed a NEST cam in my house. It gives me alerts via phone whenever movement happens or a sound occurs.

Yesterday coming home from work listening to the radio, doing nothing different... my display screen (radio/gps) went out... just shut off. After a couple of seconds the Toyota logo came back and went back to playing my previous channel. Ok? that was random is what I thought. About 2-3 mins later again the radio went out just like it did before.

When I got home I did a simple check of the battery cables as last time my radio was cutting in and out my cables were left loose due to e-start being installed. Everything was tight and secured.

When i got into the house I noticed I had 2 notifications from my camera (dog and cat walked across the room). So I got to thinking maybe its the notifications that are knocking out the radio? So a simply check would be to turn off my blue tooth - as I did.

Yesterday night going to curling, this morning going to work no issues...

So i am curious if anyone else has had this issue? Or something similar with maybe a program not supported by etune?

Puzzled right now trying to wrap my head around it..

I was going to reply saying Nest uses Wifi and not bluetooth.. But then I found this saying..

"App Silence lets you hush a 2nd generation Nest Protect during a Heads-Up or Emergency Alarm with your phone or tablet's BLE connection (if you're within range and conditions permit) without getting a broomstick to reach Nest Protect's button."

So I guess a 2nd gen Nest Protect could be sending a signal at the time of an alarm, but you would probably have to be pretty close for it to cause the issue.

I seriously doubt this was the cause of your issue. Do the time stamps of the alerts match when you noticed the issues?

There are lots of mentions of people having issues with the radio cutting out, or having bluetooth issues.


Here are a couple of threads to review.. Navi turns off Radio/Nav reset and another odd one about the 'Short Pin' for info..

To tell you the truth I didnt realize I had notifications until I got home. I just know that I got them sometime between when I left work and when I got home.

Weird it all of sudden started happening... I will read up on it however.

If you havent done curling you gotta try it!!!

Just an FYI the nest protect and nest cam are 2 different things, the protect is a fire/carbon alarm.

That is what they mean about getting a broomstick to silence...I don't think the nest cam wifi has anything to do with the radio, but you turning off the Bluetooth and the errors going away intrigues me, because mine resets, freezes, etc far to often for a truck not even a year old.

My radio was doing the exact same thing - would randomly freeze up and then restart. I brought it up to the dealer when I was in for service. They said it needed an update. According to the service tech, when they tried to install the update the radio would repeatedly shut down. They ended up replacing the entire headunit under warranty. Since then I have not had any issues.

Just to be clear. This is the NEST cam. Security camera that works with NEST's app. I can shut it off from alerting me hoping maybe the issue will not happen again.

My radio has done this before as well, but its random... can happen anywhere. i think its likely a coincidence in your case.

Turned off notifications on the NEST no issues yesterday. Pretty much the same roads, seem routine. Work to home, to gym, to curling. Nothing happened.

Either coincidence or the NEST has an effect. Ill be in the car for 6 hours I will probably try to turn the notifications on and see what happens to try and pin point.

I have 4 NEST cams, 1 outdoor cam and 2 protects.

I never have had any issues with notifications from the CAMs regarding motion, noise, or anything else. Same with the Protects. Not sure if it means anything, but wanted to let you know.
