The Official 3rd Gen Dual Case, Dual Locked Thread

I wanted to clarify for people reading up on dual cases down the road, my issue with my TG case popping out of gear when going down hill while using said to slow descent and not the brakes, is not "normal" and TG was not the ones who said they thought it was. I first talked to LowRange as that is who i purchased the unit through, and was told this by one of their sales people this but they would look into said... When I asked about my issue on the forum I was checking if anyone else was/had this issue with there TG unit as the notion the jumping out of gear was norm or i had to build a system to hold it into gear is bs. I talked with TG directly and was told my unit was built with a oem spring that rkntoy posted and they would send me the heavy duty spring rkntoy linked. Just wanted to make it clear that if u get a TG unit is not build with the idea that u'll have to live with a case that will jump into neutral while descending geared down, with that said u'd think they would just put a $4 spring into a 4.7 gear case to start...

And further note on this - this is the crawl box which is stock Toyota. Same thing can happen regardless of the adapter you use - Marlin, Inchworm, TG.

How much of the work are you doing yourself? Has a big impact on total cost. Are you going stock or lower gears? Are you doing a triple stick or not?

I would not change anything on mine (TG adapter, 4.7 gear set, RADesigns triple) except for waiting for 2 weeks for Marlin to get back to me with "we don't know when we will have anything you need in stock" (how in God's green earth do you continue to not get a handle on you production) - but I have a manual. Maybe the auto people will chime in on gear sets.

Should I do triple stack?
I will be doing all the work myself
And stock gears maybe not sure yet.

Triple stick is nice but is really a personal choice on how bad you want to keep your interior looking stock or how bad you want to keep your rear cup holder in the center console? For me it was worth it and I am very happy with how it turned out.

duals

gear driven dual cases, Pass, drop. SAS
3.4 with a A340 Auto trans, Marlin adapter to Marlins 23 spline Dual ultimate cases 2.28/4.7, dual shifter to split 2/4WD.

Honestly with the auto trans the 4.7 case is pretty low, for tougher wheeling it works well, but as a trail rider the 2.28 is my go to. I've actually used both just to see if it works, but it was actually too low to use for any length of time.

Went with the stock look, stock case shift set up like AxleIke, for the front made a hidden shift point that I can add and remove the shift handle as needed. 20180826_191259.jpg

Goddamnit. You guys keep posting up pics and now I'm officially putting dual cases on my wish list. Mostly for cool factor for me and way down the road but it seems to be something that makes worlds of difference. Not sure how the stick options play with the 2nd gen interiors but I like all the variations. Reminds me the sky is the limit and anything is possible with enough time and money. Good job everyone. They look amazing.

Triple stick is up to you. They are a little more difficult to get the levers set up on an auto. I would at least twin stick your stock case for 2wd low.

I spent a little under $2,500 on my setup including 4.7 gears, skidpate, triple sticks, drivelines. Got great deals on most of the TG parts when they honored a failed group buy that I tried to set up (turned in to a TG slamfest by all the people who think Marlin walks on water and was the inventor of dual cases - which he wasn't).

Plan on rebuilding your drivelines when you shorten/lengthen them. Good time to do it before you add more torque.

$2500 isn’t too bad
For the difference that dual cases makes
Ima have to start saving my side job pennies
Hopefully within the next month or so I’ll start acquiring parts

just like the person in snow junks link, the HD spring didn't change anything 4 me, still popping out of low downhill...

Sounds like it happens with Marlin adapters too.

Even though mine is staying in now, I clearanced around the shifter some more as the boot/shifter was still getting some pressure on it when it was in low.

Not a clearance issue, I ran it with the shiftier removed from the unit (I can look into the case) and it's popping, it's internal. I pulled the HD spring back out to check the ball, the HD spring is bent/twisted, it was in 4 less then and hr...20180919_121450[1].jpg

Weird. I can't think of what would make it bend like that. It should sit in its little pocket and push on the ball.

My T-case is no longer popping out of gear. The fix requires the complete removal and dismantlement of the case... Matt at Precision Standard Transmission in Colorado Springs is the one that resolved the popping by cutting slots into the new 4.7 gear so that shift collar and the gear can properly pull together under pressure as they r suppose to normally. I also replaced shift collar with one he had on hand that looked to have a little more bite (not to say that the one that came with the case wasn't in good shape or wouldn't have been fine) did so because I was already in there... I am using the stock shift spring and not the HD
