The Perfect 4runner.

OK, Toyota, this is the perfect 4runner in my opinion.

To start, give it a big powerful V8. This 4runner needs 350+ horsepower and 350+ lb torque. 6 speed, and fast to accelerate to show any other traffic who's boss. It will have no less mpg than 15/20, take advantage of the new fuel-effecient technology!

To continue, we need off-road performance! This 4runner will have a VERY uniform and tucked-in underbody (nothing sticking down or sucking up ground clearance like in the 4th gen). That ALONE will give it 11" of ground clearance. The body will be raised only 3" to give it an actual minimum ground clearance of 14", which is very generous for off road. It will have some great suspension system that works fantastically on and off the road. It will have full-time 4WD with high and low mode, a locking center and rear diff., and will be slightly shorter and slightly less wide for better approach/departure angles. Stock tires will be beefier, and stock wheels will be same as 4th gen limited but will be 18.5" rather than 18". The bottom will be skid-plated up to the point where almost nothing is exposed, and not the crappy, weak skid plates of the 4th gen, but very strong ones. Hood-intake as well.

So... ya. That is the perfect 4runner in my opinion. Are you listening Toyota? Does everyone agree here?

I think what you described fits more with the after-market world than a mainstream vehicle for what was once the masses.

The ideal for me would be this:

-Spend some time on the overall appearance and functionality of the vehicle (It appears as if everything was just thrown together at the last minute EX. the buttons on the license plate surround next to the 4Runner emblem)
-Bring back the quality!! No cheap materials. Remember the days when a 4Runner had quality materials and looked the part? Give us better materials and higher quality than what we can find elsewhere.
-Use extensive amounts of aluminum for the body parts to reduce weight.
-Give me leather steering wheels/shift knobs on all models
-LED exterior lights for all lamps
-Less black cheap looking plastic on the Trail
-No hard plastics in the cabin for any of the dash/door panels
-Memory seat for the Limited
-Power folding mirrors across the board
-In-glass antenna
-2-3" less in length
-Better approach angles for ALL models (get rid of the long/low bumpers like on the SR5/Limited)
-17" and 18" wheels only
-Beefier tires
-Full time 4WD on all models with locking differentials and 4-Wheel Low
-Completely revise the rear-end. It is God awful looking. The tail-lights and rear bumper are horrendous.
-Offer the new 4.6 V8 as an option
-Create a hydrogen combustion engine as an option!
-Offer a more functional roof-rack as standard on all models
-Get rid of the 3rd row seat option. Those who want a vehicle with 7 seats probably are better suited for a Highlander/Sienna anyway.
-Get rid of the squared off wheel openings. Go back to rounded openings with larger fender-flares.
-Make the push button start at least optional on all models if not standard
-The overall look ought to look like a fresh/modern version of a 2nd gen. mixed with a 3rd gen. 4Runner

In a perfect world, this is what Toyota would have/will done/do.

I think Toyota finally realizes this, or their marketing dept does. Some of their recent commercials are emphasizing on the reliability of Toyotas, i.e. 80% of Toyotas made in the last 20yrs are still on the road; Toyota has won the most quality awards.

Yes, those are true, but those are for vehicles made in the past, probably pre-2000 and in the 90s. The competition has closed the gap. I hope the commercials Toyota is running today will be running 10yrs from now.

I'm not sure why you would want this? Half sizes, as in 16.5, are easier to pop a bead of the tire off when off roading unless you have beadlocks. Not to mention tires in that size are few and far between.

So, the 4runner will have a fully independent suspension?? Remember, the rear axle pumpkin is about 9.5" off the ground...the only way to raise this pumpkin is to put on big tires.

Raising the body does NOT raise the minimum ground clearance.

I hope they bring back the Sport Edition if Toyota returns the V8 to the T4R.

Instead of the TE, the SE would have:

-V8 (4.6 is fine, nothing HUGE is necessary)
-17 inch wheels - I would be fine with leftover FJs or the 4th Gen SE wheels - just about ANYTHING is better than what is on the TE now
-Unless they have REVOs on them, any tire is fine, because I will probably swap 'em out
-Cloth TE seats
-No standard sunroof/sunroof as an option
-Full time 4WD (out of the Limited)
-keep the TE available - many (myself included) do not need the hard core off-road ability the TE may provide - but I would like the all-season capability of full time 4WD for a vehicle that spends 99% of the time on dry roads
-please keep navigation as an option - I like my maps FOLDED

Trying to keep my content low so my price stays down - I want the engine, the style and the capability.

YES, they need to put the 3.0TD thats in the Hilux into the 4runner, and a 5 or 6 speed manual transmission, and a front/rear locker, AWD, no Satnav, no screens, just radio, pedals, shifter, gauges, seats and a steering wheel.
