Thinking of selling/trading in my Runner

I'm debating on getting a truck, probably a Ford diesel or if I can find a decent priced newer Tacoma. I ride dirt bikes and it would just be easier to have a truck for that and other reasons.

I'm not 100% yet..I love my Runner but I'm getting bored with it I think

X2 on both said above. Put you a real suspension lift on it and get a rear carrier. You will have the enclosed space for cargo but still be able to carry your bike with you. Alot less hassle then selling and rebuying again too. Theres no need to be bored with the 4runner. Theres soooo much stuff you can do to one.

If you were to sell though def get a taco. That will be my next vehicle. Had one as my 1st truck and thats when I fell in love wiht toyota.

i built one of those bike carriers for $20 and use it to haul my xr 400 all over the state, i much prefer this to a pick up as like stated above, i have enclosed space to sleep in and carry all of the stuff i want to keep dry and still have room for four passengers, also if your lazy you can buy the bike carrier @ pep boys or a larger flaps for like 120-150 bucks, much cheaper than higher insurance costs and car payments. lol

Well we have two bikes, about to get a third. I could get a trailer but then I'd have to buy a hitch..and a trailer.

I guess I just have the itch for a new vehicle.

Haha you can't really be bored with it when you're not asking that much of it. If I had a penny for every spacer lift I've seen on here I'd have a lot of boring bucks. You can't knock the 4runner until you've attempted to do some real mods, swap out that plastic puck crap for some real hardware and you're love will reignite, and with every mod you do after that it will increase even more. I'm on my 3rd revolution of falling in love with my truck again, all it took was new headlights and taillights and a frame/wheel well paint treatment.

You don't want a ford diesel!! I've been thru 2 and never agian will I buy a ford diesel unless it's an oldschool 7.3. You're just asking for trouble there.
As far as yota's none in my fleet have failed me except an old camry with a blown trans.

As far as I'm concerned, you take a chance buying any vehicle and it having problems. Some buy a Ford and have nothing but problems, others buy one and have NO problems. Any vehicle is like that.

In my experience, I've had nothing but great things with Fords in the past. I've had no problems with my 4Runner either. My boyfriend has a 6.0 that is awesome and has had no issues with it at all.

I would say NOT to ditch the 4runner, but it's your runner, your money and your choice, so do whatever you really want to do.

Hit up the F250/F350 and goto ford and get on Oasis report before you buy any 6.0 using the vin of the 6.0 you're possibly about to get into. The oasis is the carfax report of ford and will tell you everything it's been in the shop for and what's been replaced. There's more than just 1 guy out there with problems, hell most of the threads are about problems..

Does said bf still have under 100k or an 06? What all does he have done to the truck? Soon he will be having egr problems, leaks, injectors, and more then likely after it gets in the 150k range possibly HG's which requires the cab to be off the truck to change. After 100k when the warranty runs out on that thing your bf will be in a world of hurt$$$.. If I ever did the diesel thing agian I would do Dodge. Although the vehicle itself isn't the best thing that cummings engine is reliable.
So trust when I say this. I'm not knockin you or your boy and not even ford but just because 1 guy out of many has had hardly no problems is a wonder all on its own. The typical thinking of 1 in so many is bad in this case is reverse and simple google will inform you more. The 06's had the least problems so that would be something to look at.
Like I've stated I've been burnt 2 times 03 and 05 that spent just as much time in the shop as they did on the road. No shear coincidence at all. Agian not trying to knock ya but trying to save ya from a potential $$$ pit that will cost you more to enjoy in the long run then your 4runner or anything else you choose.

Trust me I've worked at ford for a few years, toyota as well, now I'm at nissan. But I understand deff about being bored. I have a few toys to keep me happy. A built Supra, BPU Tundra, and now a 3rdgen 4runner.

your probley NOT going to get 200K miles out of a ford, without, doing lots of work, most dont. I grew up just miles from the ford plant in Claycomo, mo. and damn near all my buddies that work there, they dont even drive fords, that should tell you something there...
the bottom line is, get what YOU want, dont worry about what we think, we are trying to save you headaches later, but if ya want a ford, get a ford..
Ive had fords, chevys, nissan and toyotas, Ill stay with toyota. :beer:

Most sensible option is a trailer. You can unload easier, carry more gear and is the cheaper option. But if you must get something, a truck is not a bad idea. I love my Tacoma. I don't think I can do without a truck bed. But if I were to carry dirt bikes, I'd still get a trailer.

with the money you save on a new truck you can buy a trailer and a few new bikes, lol but that's me i'm utilitarian when it comes to my vehicles, i drive them into the ground till they die for good and there is no saving their carcasses, and the older and more beat they get the harder i am on them, lol

my point is there's nothing wrong with the runner, it still can serve it purpose for quite sometime, she's go some life left in her and should let her live, lol
but that's me and how i go about things if your just sick of looking at it and bored of it move on, that's your choice and i get that too, there have been some vehicles i have had that i just fell out of love with and sometimes you just gotta change , just know why your doing it and what your getting into,
i know for me i hate payments and paying for full coverage since i don't ever crash into people, lol

i think you should get a taco if anything after all you wouldn't want to leave us and start hanging out with those silly ford guys right?

I see what all you guys are saying, don't get me wrong. I love my 4Runner but I've always wanted a truck.

As far as buying a Dodge diesel, I've just witnessed two Cummins transmissions have to be replaced on trucks that are in perfect condition-I have no desire to get a Dodge..I've always been a Ford girl.

I might be a girl but I know trucks pretty well, believe it or not.

And my boyfriend's truck is an '03 and has about 95k on it. So we'll see if things start going down hill after 100k
