"Toyota Motor Corporation continues to perform well in long-term dependability and garners seven segment awards—more than any other automaker in 2011—for the Lexus RX, Scion xB, Toyota 4Runner, Toyota Prius, Toyota Sienna, Toyota Tacoma and Toyota Tundra. Ford Motor Company receives four model awards for the Ford Fusion, Ford Mustang, Lincoln MKZ and Lincoln Navigator. General Motors (Buick Lucerne, Cadillac DTS, and Chevrolet Tahoe) and Honda Motor Company (Acura RL, Honda CR-V and Honda Fit) each receive three

This again confirms CR has no idea what they are talking about. The 5th Gen 4R is the most reliable, capable, dependable, and best built vehicle in its class!

Bear in mind the dependability ratings are based on 3 years of experience - ie the 2011 award is for the 2008 model year. Good to see the 4th Gens taking an award here !

This is what you call the "proof in the pudding" and says a lot more to me than some Consumer Reports rating where they continue to compare apples to oranges and draw whatever conclusions they choose.

Yup, this is for the 4th gen. That said, the 5th gen is really just a heavy refresh from the 4th gen. Engine is a refreshed 1GR, AT is the same, simpler transfer case (SR5 & TE). Personally, those are the big items, to me, when it comes to dependability. I feel the 5th gen will do very well when the dependability study comes out for it based on the results from TrueDelta.

In some places like the control arms they look to be more beefed up on the 5th Gens. I suspect if there are any falls in reliability they will be around niggles with electrical gadgets and interior rather than big ticket items.

That is the dependability ratings for the 2008 4Runner, not for the 2011. The 2011 dependability ratings will come out in 2014.

JD Power does two types of quality ratings: 1) initial quality (problems that occur during the first 90 days of ownership and 2) dependability ratings (problems that occur during the first three years of ownership).
