Those who have gotten their headlights/Lumbar supports replaced by the dealer...

Just wondering what you guys went through to get these two items replaced by the dealer. I am coming up on the end of my warranty period and need to get them taken care of while the price is still FREE... I have the typical creak/popping in the seat and fogged headlights.

I know there is a TSB 0051-12 for the Lumbar, but the dealer said my vehicle did not come up in the affected range, which could be BS...

Thoughts...Advice?

Thanks

I called, have them the TSB, they looked it up, said I was 'in-range', would order the parts and call me when they are in for an apt. What are the last 5 or your VIN#?

is there any place I can find a full TSB text?
I have the same issue, but want to be prepared to what's to come, since I cannot be without the truck..

Westwind, the last digits of my VIN are 5008332. Did they tell you what the range was?

My VIN is just below 800. I'm surprised the 'cut-off' is below 8k given the amount of complaints here about this!

I too am curious, but I know he mentioned 'motor', to which my response was that the creaking/popping happens when it is stationary, and it moves quietly and silently. Who knows, maybe it is a complete redesign, but they are not replacing the whole seat back, like others have had done on here, but soon had the same issue again. I will ask more when he calls to say parts are in.

the cut off has nothing to do with the amount of compaints. that when they actually changed the seatback assembly at the factory. the updated part in the bulletin is already in vehicle after that vin range

Hmmmm.....

This TSB applies to vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown below.

JTEZU5JR#B5025417
JTEBU5JR#B5059462

Seems with either case you would be covered. Looks like you were fed some serious BS my friend.

I would think that it would only involve the VIN. They still come out of the same two plants and they use the same parts except for the fender changes and other various parts.

I should have a new response from the dealers today around Austin. Would still like to hear from people who got their headlights replaced through warranty.

I had both the DS Lumbar issue and both headlights replaced underwarranty. No problems at all. The actually replaced the DS seat back assembly, and gave me two new headlight assemblies. I've got 15K on the 2010. Hopefully you'll have similar success.

Dealer called, parts are in, apt for next Tuesday. Said the repair was like outlined in the TSB, said it could take 2 to 3 hours. I plan to drop it off in the morning and pick it up later.

Now, I am NOT a fan of anyone pulling apart my seat and piecing in back together, people just don't care about quality anymore. I plan to take photos of how the seat looking before the repair, and if there are any issues when I get it back they can take it and fix it again....or.....just order a new seat back assembly as they have the new part in it already (my opinion, what should be done to start with) but they are trying to keep the cost of this as low as they can. Although, the labor to tear into the whole seat and reassemble would probably even out to the cost of the rear back anyway, oh well.

How did you get them to replace the headlight assemblies? There hasn't been an actual recall on them, has there?

So if my VIN is before the updated ones, is the dealer supposed to automatically replace the new parts without requiring the lumbar support to be demostrating the noise problem before the dealer will do anything;even though I showed the service manager a copy of the TSB?
ie. My 2010 Trail is currently at 30,500+ and my support is working fine now, but the warranty runs out at 36,000miles/3years "service"date! The dealer I used is not going to order and replace for me under warranty if there's no proof of defect!
I told the service manager that the problem onlyoccurs intermittently and of course that it did not occur when I bought my truck in yesterday am!

Bottom line is am I entitled to have it replaced since it's not a recall and the TSB did state that SOME 2010 Trail has this problem! and even though I currently have no issues?

In the red box on the bottom of page one.

"APPLICABLE WARRANTY

• This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date.

• Warranty application is limited to occurrence of the specified condition described in this bulletin."

If they are limiting it to the condition described ("Some 2010 – 2011 4Runner vehicles may exhibit a condition where the driver’s side seat back lumbar area makes a pop, squeak, or creak noise while driving. The condition may become more evident when driving on rough or uneven road surfaces or while moving around in the seat, especially if the lumbar support is fully extended.") then it seems they will only replace if they can replicate the condition.

In my case some days it's bad and others I barely notice, but it is still there. I drive 2400 miles a month and for me it is unacceptable either way. Also at 33K I'm looking to get this done before 36K.

It is not a recall, just a TSB. Recall they would have to fix, TSB is only if it is showing the problem.

I just told my dealer on the phone and he ordered the parts, some dealers are obviously easier to work with than others. Then again, mine creaks and pops if you even so much as look at it so I was not worried (and I got a 7/75). I told him it has been doing it a long time but was waiting for a 'true' fix to the issue.
