Thought I had a 96, but shop tells me it's a 01?

So I bought what I thought was a 96 4run with the 3.4 and 5spd but the alignment shop said the vin came back as a 01.

VIN: JT3HN86R710050217

if this is true, somewhere on here i read they stopped making them 5spd after 00.

Anywho, alignment shop reported a bunch of issues that i suspected, outer tie rods shot, same for lateral rod bushings. This is why the thing felt like it wanted to kill me over 80k :wow:

Where did they take the VIN from? When I moved to AZ from ME I went to register my Olds Aurora and found that the door was from a 98 but the car was a 96. Caused a 3 day headache to try and register the thing

good question, I'll have to check cause it's registered as a 96.

Check for matching VINs, but also double check that one to be sure it's correct. I got one result that said 01, but there are some issues with this number that leads me to believe it's throwing false info back. I'll try to run it at work tomorrow and see what it comes up with.

The tenth digit is the year and the "1" in what you posted indicates it's a 2001.

Is the VIN on your registration/title/insurance card the same?

my registration slip has a T instead of a 1 in that spot so according to this How To Decode Your Toyota's VIN Number - Toyota Parts Blog it's a 1996. they must have written it down wrong at the shop

Tenth digit is a 1 that makes it a 2001. Check the dash vin to be sure. As said the door may have been replaced.

Also check the label on any of the seat belts. It can tell the year too.

its not on the Door, its in the driver side door jam under where the door latches. SMDH


So unless someone pulled the sticker off a complete different body or replaced the body the sticker is still a good place to look.

and what about the people that don't have stickers on the door jams like me? Again, not a good place to pull a vin from.
