Thoughts on 2010

I spent last weekend in a 2010 Trail 4runner. Overall, I thought it was nice, although I'm lukewarm on some of the FJ Cruiser type styling such as the rear tailights. I couldn't help being a little critical and comparing to my 05.

I noticed the following areas where they cheapened things up:

1) The lack of the Torsen diff -- this is a biggie
2) No climate control (EDIT -- Apparently, the low-tech looking dials are still climate control according to Toyota)
3) Hard plastic dash material
4) No motorized camming lock on rear lift gate
5) Mast antenna
6) No remote oil filter catch on top of engine -- I really like this on my 05 since I change the oil myself
7) No running boards -- maybe this is on trail only, and some may prefer, but definitely cheaper
8) Going up the hills in central colorado, it downshifted more easily and more frequently than mine. Definitely couldn't go up the hills as well - at least in higher gears -- which must be due to the weight increase.

I noticed some improvements too:
1) 120 V outlet in center console
2) More accessory outlets
3) KDSS and rear diff lock
4) Center fold-down section in rear seat
5) Busy dash with lots of buttons -- there are probably some things I'd like in there, but man there seemed like an overkill of buttons.

I'm going to hold on to mine for another year or two. I hope they add back the torsen diff on the Trail and SR5 (deal breaker) and maybe offer the V-8. If not, not sure what I'll do.
