Tire Valve Stem Caps--Orginal OEM vs Costco Green!

CostCo uses green valve stem caps as an indication to other tire people that tires are filled with nitrogen.

I found you cannot get the metal valve stem caps from Toyota eventhough they came as OEM

This is exactly why the caps are green. I've bought some nice metal ones that I've used in Colorado and now Arizona where I've never had to worry about rust. Plus I remove them weekly to check my air pressure. I just think the metal ones look better.

I just replaced mine with these No Loss Caps. They're supposed to be able to hold air pressure even with a valve failure and have a plastic keeper that goes over the stem so they won't disappear. Yeah, overkill. But I do like 'em.

Just got mine, thanks for the tip. Hopefully I'm done crawling under to mess with the spare every month. Kinda suprised there are only 4 to a package though.

First, always wondered why I saw those green valve caps - now I know, Costco.

Second, those no-loss valve caps look great! I asked the vendor a question about getting 5-per-pack and they replied:

Green cap or a green O ring on the cap means dry-nitrogen-filled. Dry-nitrogen filling is probably more important in cold climates, where moisture in air-filled tires freezes and tires lose pressure more than as they would with dry-nitrogen fill.

You should not use metal valve caps on cars equipped with tire-pressure monitoring system (TPMS, which is found in all new and newer-model cars), unless the inside of the cap is plastic.

Here are the Xtra Seal valve caps made by 31 Inc sold in most auto stores, from their catalog. The commonly used caps cost only 99 cents for the four-pack.

I also prefer the caps with rubber-grommet seals inside, such as 17-492-1 (15-4922 for the four-pack), which is my favorite. It's very high-quality construction, about as good as the OEM Toyota valve caps made by Pacific Industrial Co, Ltd, of Japan, with precisely molded threads, which makes removal and installation easier, without stripping threads. The rubber-grommet seal protects better against moisture and air loss from the valve and it also makes it less likely for an undertightened cap to fall off.

spray the caps with Armour All Wheel Protectant and spray the threads with White Lithium Grease. :thumb:
