Getting 285 duratracs. Does anyone recommend the $35 per tire to add insuarance. these tires should be pretty tough. not sure i need against nails. thoughts?

I would get it. I blew a duratrac with 60% tread left the other weekend on a rock, while wheeling. If I had bought the $35 warranty, I would have a new tire. Instead I didn't and had to buy a whole new tire.
Now I know, you don't have to show any proof that your tire is busted. My buddy bought 4 tires, 4 warranties for $35 a piece, told them they all blew within a couple months. Got 4 tires and sold them lol.

Depends on where you're getting it from. Some companies are much easier to deal with with warranty issues while others will not budge easily when you try to claim a warranty. where you getting the tires from? I would also suggest reading reviews online of warranty claims from the various tire companies.

As already mentioned I think it depends on where you drive. I never even considered a tire warranty until I moved to TX. After noticing all of the debris constantly on the road ways I have purchased it on two sets of tires and it's paid of three times (twice on one set).
All three times the culprit has been road debris picked up on the highway. So far, no punctures...etc while off road and I certainly hopes it stays that way.

I passed on the tire warranty for my e rated duratracs. I've had 2 nails in one year and discount tire has fixed them for free each time. As for blowing a sidewall, as much wheeling I've done I've never blew out a tire, knock on wood.
I'll wait until I destroy a tire and probably do the insurance on a new set. I'm going to wait to learn my lesson

I got them on mine, only about $25 a piece. Depends on who you go through and how easy to deal with.
Just recently I replaced my OEM Dumflops with Cooper A/T 3 s from Discount Tires which is considered an A/T tire;to me it's still just an all season passenger tire since it has the treadwear/temperature/traction and standard load rating;plus standard plys sidewalls which are not reinforced with more plys as in a LT tire.
My daily driving is 90% highway,rest street and even less "off-roading" (mainly gravel, dirt,forest roads if offroad)
,so I decided to buy the $25/tire warranty which really covers non-repairable punctures,ie. sidewall,outer tread edge and shoulders of tire!This will allow me piece of mind when I do go offroad and the tire(s) get damaged in areas of the tire not covered by the free standard flat repair warranty! Decision helped by the sales person(the manager) "rebated" me $25 off the total $100 for 4 tires! My main concern would be the sidewalls of passenger tires being most likely the area with the highest probability of damage occuring during offroad driving.
Likewise in my case, if I had bought LT tires instead(eg. Duratecs),I would probably not buy the extra warranty considering the type of off road driving I would do.
