The LTs are "E" rated and cost more.

The 265/70/17 Revos LTs are E. benhar asked about tires in general, so I provided an example. In the 265/65-17 size Revo is P only.

I understood your post, I just wanted to clearify the REVO LTs to benhar by adding it to your post. sorry!

No problem. I thought I misread the post. So the LT Revos do fine on your Tacoma? How much different is the ride and feel?

Also, I noticed that the TripleTreds are directional tires. I started wondering, how do they rotate those tires? If I move a tire from the driver side to the passenger side, the direction on the tire will be wrong. Do they have to take the tire off the wheel and reverse it?

To rotate sides, the tire needs to be broken down and reversed. Usually, with directional tires, they are just rotated front to back.

I think you should stick with this choice of tire. It is new technology and should work well.

I would go with the Michelin Cross-Terrains or Michelin LTX M/S. I have the 17"Cross-Terrains on my 06 and 16" LTX on my 99. The Cross-Terrains have 11/32" of tread new the LTX has 13/32" new. Both tires have a smooth ride and excellent wet traction. The Cross-Terrains are initially wearing at the rate of 1/32" per 5,000 miles. I'm just on my way to 6K. The LTX will probably go twice as far judging by the last set I had. They wore at the rate of 1/32" per 10,000 miles. You will get more bank for your buckwith the LTX. I never go off-road so I cannot comment on how they perform in mud.

Get the "P" REVOs, you will not be sorry!

I agree w/Koz. they are a nice tire,you won't regret it !

They are like an agressive all-season tire, I personally don't think they are much of an all-terrain tire at all even though they are classified as such. The "P" rated tire's ride and handle great on wet road's , personally I was disappointed with them in snow simply because how everyone talked them up for snow. I alway's had BFG AT's and think they were better in snow.

Just my .02

Another tire to consider is the BFG Rugged Trails.

They are used as OEM on the Xterra Offroad Package and also have been used for a few years on certain trim levels of the Ford Explorer.

I'm mostly interested in on-road comfort and quietness, so I probably would avoid an aggressive tread like the KOs or even the milder Revos.

My buddy has the Rugged Trails on his Explorer, and they were amazing in the 19-inch snow storm here in New York this winter. The 4wd system on his Explorer is nowhere near as good as the 4Runner, but the Rugged Trails more than made up for the poor 4wd system.

I was so impressed that those tires are definitely on my list. They have a nice tread pattern (without being too aggressive) and are priced fairly well.

I've had many different tires (LTXs, KOs, GSAs) on the Taco and the REVO LTs are by far the best at everything, including off-roading. The LT REVOs are true LIGHT TRUCK all terrain tires. With the "E" rating they are great aired down for off-roading and incredible for towing (80psi). My PreRunner is 2wd with the TRD blower and it DEMANDS traction. The REVOs are in a class of their own. I can't wait to put them on my 4Runner.

I've got "P" rated Revo's , I personally did'nt want the "E" rated as I think they are way overkill for these truck's, but everyone has different uses so it might work best for some. I think most here have the "P" rated Revo's . I wish they made a "C" rated in a 265/70/17 , but with a more aggressive tread. Like I said I consider these tire's as a agressive all season tire, not an all terrain. I do like the ride and the way they handle in wet/rain,but that's it. I'm contimplated pulling them off at 3k mile's and 3 off- road excursion's and putting BFG AT's on,but since most of my driving is on road, not sure what I'll do. I'm going to Montana hunting this fall and they will deff. be on for that trip.

I've got a friend at work that has the BFG Rugged trail's an his Taco and really like's them. I never had them so personally can't comment.

You have to find what work's best for you we all have different need's , opinion's and want different look's for our truck's. I personally think like Koz said the "P" rated Revo's are a excellent compromise. I've beeen seeing ton's of Revo's lately around here on truck's.

BFG Rugged Trails also come standard on the 2005+ TRD Off-Road equipped Tacomas. I haven't driven many miles with them, but they work very well in dry and wet weather. Haven't tried them in snow yet. My Taco is a PreRunner. I love the squared shoulders on the Rugged Trail.

I don't do too much off-roading but I have to tow. That's why I would get the LTs. The P rated REVOs are as good or better then the LTs for on-road use. I would put the P rated REVOs up against the KOs for the occasional off-roading. The only advantage the KOs have over the P rated REVOs is off-road durability. If durability is your number one concern the LT REVO is every bit as good as the KOs. The big difference is on-road and rain/snow. I've had the KOs and in my opinion they don't compare to the LT REVOs.

I can't comment on the LT Revos, never had them. The revo "P" is nice on road/wet/rain,but in snow I felt the BFG worked just as well and the OR durability is alot better , but I'm sure the LT version is just as good . I think the LT version would be great for towing heavy load's like you use them for. I think they are a great all around tire for a "P" rated.

Thanks for all of the advice! It appears that the majority opinion was for the Revo's, which would have been my hands-down choice if I had been smart and bought a 4wd 4Runner.

However, I saw a set of TripleTreds on a truck this weekend, and actually really liked the way they looked in person. So, since 99.5% of my driving is on-road, they are only $141/tire at TireRack, and the TripleTreds seemed to edge past the Cross Terrains on the tests at TireRack, I finally broke down and placed the order before I could 2nd (or was it 3rd or 4th?) guess myself. I just wish there had been more user experience with them, since as it is I'm taking a gamble with a new product. They haven't even been out long enough to be listed on the survey at TireRack. I'll be sure to post my experience with them.

Unfortunately, they are out of stock, and the TireRack customer service didn't know how long it will be until they get in. So now I guess I have to wait. I wonder how much longer I can safely drive on my Dunflops?!?

I can, but it's roughly the same price as my dealer. But for some reason the TripleTreds and Revos are ~$150 less than the dealers.

Um, I think I replied to the wrong thing here. It's all moot now, but I think I meant to say that the white letters don't come in 265/65-17.

Thanks again for the advice. I came very close to getting the CTs, and may end up wishing I had :)

Congrat's on the purchase , I would also check with your tire dealer too, and maybe they can get you some. Usually after you figure in shipping , mount & balance you can get them at just as good of price as a local dealer, and you could haggle a little to possibly get internet pricing match.

Don't 2nd guess about the tire's , they will work fine for you application's. We all have different opinion's but bottom line is you have to get what work's best for you and your application's,they'll be fine !!

Thanks for the support! I had already called the dealer, and they quoted me $890 installed. I about fell out of my chair. Going through TireRack, I'm looking at $746 installed (I would have never imagined I'd spend that much on tires. I always though $500 was expensive).

Ironically, I just got a call from TireRack saying that the TripleTreds are not in stock and won't be for some time. He gave no indication of when, just definitely not in the next three weeks. I'm patient enough to wait, but I'm not sure the Dunlops can. I could probably go another month, but I'm not sure I can risk driving another 2-3 months on them. It would be nice to have a better idea of the time frame. Looks like I might be getting the CTs or Revos after all!

This might actually be a sign I need to get Revos :D. Just curious, does anyone else think it is weird to put A/T tires on a 2wd SUV?

I don't think it's weird at all to put an AT on a 2wd. Look at it this way , unless people are tuned into 4R's like we all are the average joe on the road will never know if it's 2wd or 4wd.

Also there are a few on here all ready that are 2wd with 265/70/17's on a 2wd. Don't remember the name though but 1 was a black one and I think even had a brush guard on the front.

How much are the tire's at tire rack for each one ?, shipping ? Mount & balance each tire ?

Hmm, I think maybe I'll go ahead and get the Revo's... that's what I really want to get anyway, I just had to be convinced I'm not going to regret the on-road performance.

Here's the total pricing for the tires (in 265/65-17, given that usig TireRack will cost me $57 to have them balanced and mounted with lifetime flat repairs and rotations, and ~$70 shipping.)...

_____________Dealer____TireRack
--------------------------------------------
Revos_______~$870_____$730 ($157/tire)
TripleTred_____$882_____$732 ($141/tire)
Cross Terrain___$768_____$856 ($169/tire)

The price differences aren't consistent, but that's because of different rebates and the fact that I have to use a different dealer for each brand; a disadvantage of living in a small town.

I'm sorry to drag out this thread, but I have another question. And before anyone jumps on me, I've already searched this (as I do just about everything else before asking!), but didn't find a good bottom line. There are too many other factors (V8/V6 owners, lift/no lift, etc).

How have the V6 owners with no lift fared with the 265/70-17 size? I'd want them for the cheaper price and better looks, but don't know how much of a hit I'll take on performance and gas mileage. I can do the math for the speedometer and odometer easily enough, but how much affect does it have on the V6's performance and MPG?

Thanks!

The 265-65-17 REVOs are more expensive then the 265-70-17s. So you can gain approx a half inch of ground clearance and save some money.

Exactly correct ! As far a performance and gas milage, will it change thing's ....yes it will ( slightly ), will it be drastic ....I don't think so. BUT that's all in the feel of every owner and everyone's opinion is different, so I'm not telling you what to do.

Since this is so subjective to everyone's opinion's, try searching more or post another thread about 265/70 revo's with a V6 see if some of them will pipe in.

I switched out my stock Donlops on day 1 so I never noticed any difference between 65/70's.

Also by switching to 265/70/17 your speedo and odo. will be off slightly, but not by much.
