Tire woes

The local Goodyear dealership quoted me that price. So far they are the only place that will mount tires not bought in-store, and they don't care that the tires are oversized. I do agree that it is a bit pricey. I think Wal-Mart can do it too for around $35, but, well, it's Wal-Mart. I don't know, maybe they are pretty decent. There are a couple of other places I'm going to call tomorrow too to see if I can get a better deal. I mainly want someone who can work around the tire pressure sensors. That alone might be justification for the hour drive to my nearest Toyota dealer...Bluto said:

Okay, so it has been 3 months now.... how do you feel about your decision to go with the Revos? Good choice? Bad choice?

I think the Revos were a good choice. First off, they look GREAT, especially with the 265/70-17 size. They definitely give the 4Runner a tougher look. I have been seeing more and more 4Runners around town, most being used for "soccer mom" like purposes. Now, between the hood scoop and aggressive tires, my 4Runner has been set apart from all the others.
The ride quality noticably improved, and the 70-17 Revos also handle bumps and dips in the road MUCH better than the stocks.
Other than looks, the single most dramatic improvement was wet traction. With the Dunlops, I was always nervous in even the smallest amount of rain. I never felt secure with them. However, with the Revos, I feel just as secure in the heaviest rain than I do on dry roads. They seem to cut through the water and stick like glue to the road. I feel much safer now in bad weather conditions, which to me is alone worth the price I paid.
I can definitely hear the Revos over the Dunlops, but not near enough to bother me. I also took the expected hit on fuel economy, but I don't think it's enough to worry over. Such a small hit on MPG is far outweighed by the benefits. I've also adjusted to the 3% inaccuracy of the speedometer. My only real gripe is that I'm still waiting for my $75 rebate from Bridgestone.
I've only done mild offroading with the Revos, but they performed great.
Just a side note, I've heard complaints of the Revos kicking up rocks, and although they do kick up a little more than the average tire, I don't see it as a problem.
All in all, if I had it to do over again, I would buy the Revos again. I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend them, even to someone who rarely, if ever, offroads.

Thanks for the update and opinions. I'm strongly considering buying a set of Revos by the end of the summer (or just in time for winter), but the one thing that concerns me is road noise. I have a couple of very long road trips planned, and I'm not too crazy about driving long distances with a tire that hums on the highway.
From what I've read on this forum and others, the Revo seems to make a bit more noise in the 40-50 mph range and then quiets down at highway speeds.
Do you agree? If the noise is only slightly louder than the Dunlops, then I'll probably get the Revos. If it's more than slightly louder, I might look for another tire.

To me, the noise level is only slightly more than the Dunlops, but some people might say it's more than that. I will say that noise level was probably by biggest concern when I got the Revos, and since the first week there have only been a few times when I actually noticed that I was hearing the Revos, and even then it didn't bother me. I don't think you will find another tire this quiet with treads this aggressive.
For what it's worth, the week I got them put on, I had both my sister and girlfriend in the 4Runner at the same time, and when I asked neither one said they could hear the tires. I also just asked my carpool buddy, and he said he hasn't noticed any increase in noise since I got them put on. More than likely, the only reason I even hear them is because I'm anal about noises and listened out for them. I'd hate for you to get the tires and regret it due to noise level, but I can honestly say that it has not been a problem for me.
