Tires, Wheels, or Tires and Wheels

I've got the mod bug and have already dipped the emblems black. Looking at my next mod to be tires, wheels, or both.

I'm looking at the Method NV's or the TRD Pro Wheels in Matte Black.

I know it's personal preference but my original idea was to purchase wheels, run stock tires until they're bald, sell 15 TE wheels to recover some funds, then buy tires at the end. A buddy suggested I wait and just buy tires and wheels at the same time (looking at 285's eventually), but that also means that I would need to be ready to install the lift so that's a lot of $$$ at once.

How many of you bought just wheels first, did just tires first, or waited and did tires, wheels, lift etc? Thanks.

tires are very important. Performance, safety, braking.

Wheels.... are not.

Aftermarket wheels with stock tires.... well, that's just messed up.

Stock tires are garbage in my opinion. I wouldn't risk myself or my occupants with bald or even worn stock tires.

To answer your question, I had tires changed before I drove my 4r home. There's no need for me to change the wheels because they're already 17's, they're alloy, and anything that I would upgrade to would have to meet the same 2 criteria. Nothing more.

It if came with 19's or something squirrly that limited my tire choice, I'd probably consider changing wheels.
Otherwise, These have been great on the street and on the trail-- with proper tires that is. And 17's give lots and lots of options.

I would do it all at once as well. I want to do the same but I'm too cheap to waste the current tires. Local buyers don't seem to be picking up the stock tires or wheels so I'll just wait until the tires are rundown.

I appreciate everyone's input and now know what I must do. With that said, already got the full set of Bilstein 5100's from [MENTION=120150]TotalAutomotiveLV[/MENTION] and am now searching for OME spacers. One step at a time I'll get my truck to where I want it to be! Thanks all.

Good first purchase! It will get the truck riding nice and in the air a bit so you can stuff a larger tire in there.
