to get coils or not...

My bilstein 5100s are here and UCAs are on the way and should be here within the week. The question, should i get new coil springs? I'm not planning on doing heavy off roading but I do enjoy playing in the dirt and want to romp around in the sand dunes. I've read some posts where people were saying that upgrading to billies without upgrading your coil springs is like wiping your ass with the cash you spent.

My original plan was to stick to the stock springs but I'm having second thoughts now. A leveled out 3" without too mushy of a ride sounds good to me but is it noticeable? I was looking at the toytec 3" lift kit. Any input from you guys out there?

The Eibach coils I put on are an overall improvement to the vehicle IMHO and well worth the money. Do it now while its already apart.

That was my thought. I don't want to have to take two trips. Would rather knock it all out in a day while I'm at work. Just wanna make sure the extra $400 is gonna be worth it.

I just had the 6112 system installed with new coils. It really highlighted just how mushy the stock coils were.

Alright, went ahead and ordered the toytec front and rear coils w/ diff drop sans spacers since I've got the adjustables up front.

Probably won't need the diff drop.

I don't think I have seen one person run it with all the different types and heights of lift.

Been running my lift for almost 5 years with no drop and not one CV broken or boot torn.

hmm... good to know. Better safe than sorry I guess, it was only 30 bucks.

I tore cv boots on my 3" 5100/OME set up within 8 months. Sitting at about 2.5" on Radflo/Eibach now and I run dif spacers. The cv angles do seem a bit happier, I'm not sure how much difference it really makes but it is a cheap insurance policy (especially if you piece together a hardware store set up).

@OP: definitely upgrade your springs, your runner will still nose dive without them. the OME mediums are decent and fairly cheap if you don't plan of pushing your rig hard.

Yeah, it's my daily driver and I live in the city. I'm more of a weekend warrior so I need to compromise. Thanks for the heads up though, I'd always rather be a bit more cautious.

Looks like Hyphen is on his way with a nice setup. I'd like to piggyback this thread to ask about upgrading from 5100s (2.5 + daystar spacer). I like my setup but don't love it. Anyone go from 5100 all round to something else and can provide some feedback? I keep reading about the BOSS setup being more comfortable than most; thoughts on doing BoSS up front and superflex springs in the back? Should keep the cost down a bit.

the most expensive setup is the one you build twice. I went from OME/5100/5160 to 2.5" ET/LT Remote Radflo/Eibach/MetalTech LT. love the ride, but I'm having to rebuilt seals on a coilover barely a year in.

I'm running the Toytec kit with the 5100s and Eibachs with SPC UCA's.

The only thing I added was the adjustable rear panhard bar so the ass end lines up with the front (you can get up to 2" offset if you don't).

I also made sure to leave a small front rake on the truck, so when I load it up with crap it doesn't drag its butt like a dog with pinworms.

Is that the front BOSS coilover that you have? Is the panhard issue common with all lifts? I never seen anyone else bring this up before, except back in the day with the 3rd gens.

the (stock) panhard bar is a fixed length link between the rear axle on the driver's side and the frame on the passenger side. as the axle droops through articulation, or a lift is installed, the panhard bar pulls the axle towards the passenger side. installing an adjustable panhard allows you to compensate for this pull, and lets you to re-centre the axle under the truck. this can have implications to eliminating rub in the rear wheel wells under full stuff

Yes and yes.

If you plan on stuffing the tires, you want the adjustable panhard.

I have 5100 billies at the highest setting with stock coils and almost zero nose dive, even in "panic braking" situations. It's a huge difference from stock.
