Took her through silt/sand

Just adding two photos of my weekend excursion to south point and Green sands beach; Big island. What do you all think?
I was traveling through red dirt which turns to silt with ease, you can walk on it and it'll break down so driving and turning tires turns it. I have the regular 4x4, no locking diff's yet. Took be a while to get out of this. Used rocks to build up under front left and rear right tires. My truck was extremely dirty on the inside after this. Any of you know what red dirt is or been to Hawaii youll know what Im talking about. Pain in the but to clean. Had fun though and explored a new corner of the island.

Nice pix - I got to get over there. I got a phone call sunday night from a buddie who was at Richardson Park - near Hilo. He said the waves were great.

Wow....another native.

I have been to South Point & Green Sand Beach....friggin great!!!

I am from Oahu. I drove my rent a car all they way to the boat harbor and we started walking to the Green Sand Beach. We heard it was about a 20-30 min. walk no problem. After a 10-15 min walk a native stopped and asked if we needed a ride. We asked if we were almost there and he politely said no. So we jumped in his truck and it took us another 45 minutes by truck to actually get there.....sh*t that was nuts....I cant believe we tried to walk it. Nevertheless, we asked the same guy to take us out because I wasn't going to walk that far....damn that was far.

So I am waiting until the Superferry stops in Kawaihae and I will meet you and the other Hawaii Island 4R's and we can shoot the cruise. I wanted to camp down Kiholo Bay as well. Is there other places to visit? Let me know.

Too bad your 3rd gen doesn't have ATRAC, that would've been a walk in the park ;)

I can't wait to get boggers on my 4r

Yeah for the big boat that'll prob destroy so much of our oceanic life. But if it does, make sure you come over and have fun. I wish I did have a front or rear locker on it and made that whole ordeal so much easier. But it was fun and true off roading trying to get your rig out of the situation. Dont put boggers on, they stink. Youll have them for 8 months and need a new pair, they just dont last. So many people have them here on the island and wear through them much to quickly. Any super swampers are not that good. Get some Mickey Thompsons. I have a friend with a lifted 1 ton ford diesel. Pretty heavy truck compared to ours. Hes running MT's and the tires show no wear with all that weight after 1.5 years. Its unbeleivable. He said you get what you pay for. He has 38's and they were 400 each. Im going MTs for sure.

I know how boggers wear, I don't mind.

My 4r isn't my daily driver, and me and my cousin have a saying "It's not a REAL lifted truck unless it has boggers"

Also, the superferry doesn't seem that bad. Have you seen how many big ships come through here daily? The superferry is nothing compared to those.

are they really gonna do the super ferry? it'll be the inew island to island ice delivery service, and im not saying frozen water.

Yeah I know itll be easier for Ice to get around, but Im hoping that they have a stringent test or search system for that. It'll make it a larger pain for us who dont do anything like that though. maybe the 5.0 should leave us alone who have large tires and look for ice. Seriously, which is the bigger problem, is it that hard to figure out.

Yeah I agree. They should search out the ice and let people herb out. After all we cook with herbs so what is the big deal. The world would be a peaceful place if herbs were allowed. I would give some to Saudi's, North Korean's, Palestinians, Israelis...shit the whole middle east would get the Kushungpeng.

At this point, how bad can the super ferry be? We dont have Aloha Air anymore and GO airlines is the devil (punk b*tches). I just want to go to the outer islands and not have to pay for a rent a car or hotel for that matter. Just camp out.

Good tip about those boggers! I have always loved super swamper tires because they are the "real deal". But because of the heavy wear and tear I have recently been looking at different options. I had those MT's in mind because they are good on the sand.

When we come up to Hawaii Island, I will drop you all a line and we can run em hawwd!!

A Hui Hou,
