Top Speed Data!

The GPS unit I used updates data every second so several passes will be needed to verify the true top speed. I could only make one safe pass. I ran out of safe road on this one pass, so I had to let out of it and was not sure I bounced the speed limiter. I think there may be 1 or 2 more mph. We can ALMOST put this to bed. I will post an absolute top speed ASAP, but for now this will stand as top speed.

I do know that last week I punched it on the freeway to pull away from a tailgator, an was surprised how fast it went to 100 - and did it real smooth like!

Interesting, ive hit 105mph in my 01 4R (4WD) and it felt like there was more left in her. But that was a one time thing, i dont feel comfortable in a truck like ours to even go over 90mph. These trucks wernt built for speed and agility. Now on the other hand, my Acura ive hit 148MPH it she felt steady as if i was going 50mph.

Before doing any of off-road modification, I've done some performance ones. Then I gone to the race truck (the only safe place to do such experiments, plus you are not getting any tickets for speeding) and tried my 4Runner out. My maximum speed was 193km/h = 120,6mph. This was measured by professional measuring system.

That was fast for sure. Did you know 4Runners could fly? A few years ago I read in the paper a 4Runner running from police at over 100mph, he actually became air born. These vehicles can get some serious lift at high speeds. The picture in the paper only showed car parts scattered in the road. I'm glad to know the 4runner can hit 116mph, but the landing is a bit rough at those speeds.

About 2 weeks ago I took a trip to Dallas from San Antonio and got hooked up with another 4Runner along the way. It was basically my 4Runner's twin, except his was a 4x4 and mine was 2WD. There was also a brand new black C6 Corvette that was following as well. At one point we had gotten out of traffic just north of Waco and were out on the open road and I got it up to 110mph (it was at the end of the speedo) and the other 4Runner behind me stayed right there. The C6 was right behind the other 4Runner and we just cruised like that for a couple of miles before I had to back off due to approaching traffic. It was definitely interesting... My coworker with me at the time was surprised it could do 110mph and be as stable and quiet as it was, too.

Just tall heavy cars: my last long distance driving trip their was a section I was doing 75-90 and a Sequoia was right behind me, we traded places a few times but 90 was nothing, then the last leg and 12 hours in the car with about another hour to go I never dropped below 90 but kept it at 100-110, had plenty of followers to get picked off if I did pass a cop:arrow:

That was with synthetic oil, with dino I would have never exceeded 80mph, don't want to push the limits of just regular oil

Great information Koz. You really have a need for speed! Have you tried this on your supercharged Taco yet?

The Taco shuts down at 110MPH and is not as stable as the 4Runner.

i set the cruise on my 4-runner at about 80-85. never topped it out. my friends 96 t-100 does about 100 top end. and his dads '05 tundra does about 110 but i think it has a limiter cuz you can feel the power just cut out.

I have the Escort Solo S2 cordless radar and it is excellent. It picks up k band, ka band, x band, and laser. In addition, it has smartshield VG2 immunity. This one also filters out a lot of the false signals like microwaves etc. It has saved me a few times! It goes through batteries a bit quickly but you can also run it off the 12V.

:iagree: The S2 is a great Radar detector with a very small amount of false alarms. After having owned several other I was surprised how well this battery operated unit works. With the cordless capability its just hooked to my passenger sun visor where it works great and is out of the way.
