so , i am about to push the "buy now" button on a 3" complete lift for my wife's 2011 limited 4r . just wanted some opinions or some personal experience with this lift .. the icon stage 1 is sweet too just a little more then i wanted to spend . the 4 runner will be on the road 99 % of the time , but i want it done right i am not to keen on just coil spacers .

any input would be awesome

thanks

Gary

I love my OME. Its a full frame TRUCK. If you want a soft cushy ride you bought the wrong vehicle, get a Highlander. That said, my OME is moderately stiffer than stock, zero complaints.

I have installed an Ultimate Kit on a 5th gen and also on a FJ Cruiser (same basic frame/suspension). Both owners instantly commented about how much better the ride is over stock.

Being able to dial in exactly the front lift you want is awesome (with the adjustable coilovers).

FYI, the FJ lift was installed in my driveway in about 3 hours. (it's nice to wrench on new junk)

I just had High-Tech put in Bilsteins and did OME 895Es in the back (ordered from Toytec) and it isn't harsh at all. Ride seems as good as the Toytec coils in my opinion.

yea thats a sweet kit ... but why is it so much cheaper? still trying to find what makes the other kits better ...

Gary

I don't know why it's so much cheaper. I can only guess that it's because it uses "off-the-shelf" shocks instead of tuned shock bodies that you find on Radflo, Icon, King....etc. I've never heard anything bad about 5100 shocks though, so I figure that particular lift is a pretty safe bet for what I'm after. YMMV

IIRC OME gives you a choice of which spring rate you want. Peeps taking them off probably got to heavy a spring or went with the Eibach springs and set their shock higher than zero. Just assuming here so

Yup sure do Click here for options. lighter springs for cushier ride.

Brock which spring did you get?

Gary,
I posed a similar question to Doug from Toytec, about the difference between the Ultimate lift and the new Bilstein 5100 lift. Here's his response:

"The TTHA-CK-RCC (bilstein kit) has coilovers that use a fixed lower seat therefore they are not adjustable on the vehicle and they are only adjustable in increments so if you don't get enough lift you cant easily adjust up or down like you can with the fully adjustable coilovers."

Hope this helps.

Similar situation and I went with the Ultimate in the end. No regrets at all. Ride was instantly better and the installation was pretty simple.

884s in front and Super Flex in the rear

A lot of people think they "need" heavier front springs, even though it clearly says that it is for permanent weight.

hey there,

thanks for the explanation .also how about uca's?? do they need to be changed to keep the proper steering geomatry ?

i have asked this question too .. if keeping stock 20's i assume i need spacers for a better stance and less chance of rubbing ... do you do both front and back ??

thanks for all the great info

Gary

I have the full OME lift. I find it noticeably harsher. Anyone who says that they put this lift on and the ride got 'better' is BS'ing you, or they define 'better' as in less body lean. The OME springs are stiffer. Stiffer springs = stiffer ride.
I feel every pebble or joint in the pavement. That being said they are noticeably better off-road. Going over rough, boulder covered trails is quite a bit smoother.

If you are going to be using this primarily on the road I wouldn't recommend it.

was thinking this kit with light racing uca's

FJ Cruiser/4Runner Ultimate 3" lift package - Toytec Lifts: Toyota Lift Kits: FJ Cruiser Lift Kits, Tacoma Lift Kits, Tundra Lift Kits, 4 Runner Lift Kits, Sequoia Lift Kits, Toyota Truck Lift Kits

MetalTech was having a sale on the LR uca's at IIRC $375. Give em a call they can probably help you out on the lift also, or at least answer your questions

Gary,
According to Doug, if your lift is less than 3", you SHOULD be able to set the stock UCA's to factory alignment specs, using the lift kits they sell. I believe him, but I find it hard to believe that folks around here are dropping $400+ on LR UCA's for no reason. I'm still torn on the issue.

The reason for the upper arms is that they articulate better so that the ball joint doesn't bind and also so you can achieve greater positive caster to alleviate tire rub in the rear of the wheel well.
