Toyota cheaped out?

I cant believe this thread has reached 5 pages. wow! Its like self sustaining fusion. I was compelled to contribute. Its now a force of nature.

yes, toyota uses cheap plastic. imo, thats how they cheap out on every vehicle they make. My 2007 BMW 5 series was better in the interior quality in every way. Yet i still sold it to buy my 2012 Grey Limited.

Cheap plastics or other parts, i still chose it over another bmw.

Maybe i cheaped out....
 
In terms of Toyota cheaping out from the 4th Gen i can't comment. but I can say that I did pay practically the same for my 5th Gen as I did for my 97 T4R. Toyota did add some creature comforts to the 5th gen that I do not have on my 3rd gen that I still own like outside temp. miles till empty, bettere steareo, etc.
But they did take away such things as the locking gas door and the power attenna. Which I did expect them to keep on a vehicle of this caliber. I also must say that the sheetmetal is definitley tinny sounding on my new truck over my old truck. I found the same situation when buying my new Maxima. Just not built as well as my old one. Car companies have to cut back some how in order to be profitable. It's still up to the consumer to make the decision as to what they are willing to live with.
I bought another 4Runner because of the positive experience I had with my 3rd Gen. Hopefully it will last 15 years just like my 97 has so far.
 
The 4runner is alone in its segment when it comes to capabilities. That being said, they cut quite a few corners in fit and finish/creature comforts. I personally think the 4runner is expensive for what it is. No reason to get angry over it. People still want them and they are the best in their segment at the off-roading business. However, for comparison sake (everyone loves these, right?), you can get a crew cab F150 4x4 lariat with leather navi 9500lb tow and 21mpg for the same money, after discounts, as a Trail. :hiding:

It's all about what you want and what you need. That's it.

I have always found the debate over "Cheap Plastic" -vs- Quality(?) Plastic akin to discussing the height of Midgets (Ooops, little jammers)
Does it really matter?

It's like hood metal thickness. By that yardstick, apparently a 1975 Plymouth Valiant is the best car. Personally I'd like as light a hood as I can get - I would not care if they made it out of plastic, or aluminum.

I have been in Business for 27 years, one way you can tell IF you are doing it right is count the Haters that throw (attempt) to throw rocks in your general direction.
Countless, baseless rediculous criticisms ...... commonly referred to as "Blah Blah Blah" Rinse/Repeat "Blah Blah Blah"
I say, "Whatever".
Waste of good air IMO.
