Toyota of Plano, TX

Hey guys wanted to drop a few words about my experience at Toyota of Plano.

My Check engine, VSC, and Trac lights all came on middle of December. I ran the codes at a local AutoZone, and from what i found on the internet it could be about 5 things, so wanting to get the job done right and not have to mess with trying multiple solutions, i reluctantly took it to the dealer, as I am new in the area and really don't know of a quality mechanic i can trust.

So they have the vehicle a day and come back with a solution for the check engine lights as well as a few other things that i was due on. They determined the CCV (or PCV??) valve had gone bad, which they were able to replace without much hassle, they also find a crack in one of the hoses from my air intake, but have to order that piece in. So the following afternoon i pick up the vehicle, and am pleased with the service, the "honest" sales rep i had.

A week goes by and boom my check engine, VSC, and Trac lights all come on again. So i immediately run it back up to the dealership and was all :wtf: So they asked to keep the vehicle and GIVE me a loaner. So they can find out what is going on.

They call me back and tell me they have some how hydro-locked the vehicle with gas (basically the same as flooding it w water, only its gas) so they cant do anything with the vehicle until they get the gas out of the engine (spark plugs wouldn't fire). So they recheck the timing on the engine as they still have no idea how the flooding happened, and proceed to find out what had happened to make the lights come on.

They determine my charcoal fuel filter cartrigdge has gone bad and quote me another 750 bucks to get this fixed!! I tell them ill be by to pick it up and get a second opinion before i go any further. I swing into pick it up and they try to charge me for the loaner they said they would "GIVE" me!!

So i take it to a local mechanic i found that only works on Toyota's, and uses only OME parts. He runs the codes, scratches his head and asks me for the paperwork on what they did. looks it over and calls me into the shop, were the codes the stealership said they fixed are still listed!! so i hop back in the truck and head up to the dealership to find out what the heck is going on. I end up talking to the general manager and he wants another mechanic to take a peek at it to verify what is going on. So i drop the vehicle off with them yet another day.

Get a call back and they have found that it is not the canister that is leaking but the hose that connects the fuel tank to the canister!! I tell them ill be by to pick up the vehicle and not to do any further work on it.

I really think these guys do a shotgun approach to fixes, when they should take time and thoroughly diagnose the problem before they give you a solution. Needless to say I will never EVER let them lay a hand on a vehicle on mine ever again. I am a Toyota buyer for life and will never do business with them again. Shotty mechanics and misdiagnose of info have cost me time and money.

Id be happy to give you a local (Dallas area) mechanic that i have used should anyone need a referal!

PM me and ill get you the info!

Typical of every dealer I have dealt with in Dallas or Fort Worth regarding repairs and sales.......worse, that "Toyota Extra Care" platinum warranty that they try to sell, AIN'T the TOYOTA warranty that everyone talks about--it really comes from Sentry Insurance

I am originally from texas and the only good dealership I have ever heard about there is Sewell. My mom got her Lexus there and I have a friend that works at the Infinity in Houston, they have the best service around, period.

Although this is great information, I can't get them tot ouch my 4runner. We have bought 8 Lexus vehicles from them and I would like to believe I have some stroke but they said they cannot touch it unless it has the Lexus emblem. Know where I can get some for cheap?

P.S. I would like the recommended mechanic as well.

Can you PM me the mechanic? Thanks

wants to know as well. Thanks.

I ended up going to JP Euro. He is North of 635 off of Miller road. I have referred many of my friends and fellow T4R forum members to him. If you wouldn't mind tell him i sent you. The Owner/Operator is Jason Phan.

Hello. New member here.

I live in denton and just purchased a 2005 4runner with a v8 than needs a new timing belt.

Any recommendations in my area? Or is Jp euro the go to person in DFW?

Thanks!

Hades, I dont know of anyone off the top of my head in the Denton area, but JP just did a timing belt, timing belt pullies and all new radiator hoses for me. Really pleased with his work, and excellent customer service.

What did that cost you ? I'm in the area as well and in need of the TB change soon.

Thanks

I can also recommend Jason! Very nice guy and he shoots straight from the hip. Been doing business with him for a few years.

I had a good experience with them (Toyota of Plano) just recently...just hope it continues.:pray2:

Since I last posted, I do know that they have completely revamped the shop from the desk to the shop. I have been back since, as it closer to my place. Great service this time around.

Good to hear you have had the same.

I used to be a salesman for TOP. I have no more affiliation / bias, but I would escalate any concerns and issues to their management. From my experience, they place good importance on any negative feedback and try their very best to prevent any negative word / reviews.

It's on them if they don't care - but I hope you gave them a fair chance to resolve.

All the best!

* On a side note, I read someone's post about Sewell... Yes, they seem like they care a lot for their customers. I recently completed reading Carl Sewell's book, "Customers for Life". Learned a good amount.

Ive never had anything as severe as this happen to my 4r. I have been to toyota of plano, dallas and fort worth and haven't had any huge issues. The only issues ive had are the standard saying to change the cabin filter. I did have an issue at the fort worth dealer where they forgot to remove the oil bottle and i complained about and got a free oil change out of it.
