DON'T GET SOLARA KIT
I took the plunge and paid my dealer the 500 bucks. It turns out that the dealership really uses a car audio shop right next door to do this work. Despite assurances I would get a roof mount antenna, when I picked up my the truck there was an antenna mounted inside. The install looked clean so I drove off and activated my XM a few minutes later. I could tell right away there was a problem with reception. For the next 24 hours I did not listen to one song the whole way through. It was really annoying. I called and talked to the owner of the audio shop and he told me I had a problem with my radio, not the antenna location. So they took a head unit out of another 4runner on the lot and switched it with mine. Same problem. He tells me that he tried a roof mount antenna and that still didn't work, but I don't believe him, because he later told me he would have to special order a roof mount antenna. I told him to take his crap back and give me money. I made a long story as short as possible here, but this took a few days of hassle, without my car,and it never worked. I went to bestbuy and got the roady xt for 50 bucks, put it on the roof and have had no problems.
The steering wheel controls worked fine with the audio shop install but the antenna placement was shielding the signal. I fully believe it would have worked with the landcruiser kit antenna mount, but this guy wouldn't admit it for pride or whatever reason. Hope this saves someone else some troubles.

Boy am I confused. I am reading in some spots that the LandCruiser model won't work. Then I am reading in some other places that the antenna is different. Then I am reading about the 'Fit Kit.' What the heck is that?
Does the antenna even matter? Regardless of what kit is bought, can't you just buy another antenna from best buy that better suits your install?
I think most of us have either the E7007, E7008, or E7009 nav units. Which sirius units will work on these? Are they all interchangeable? I have the E7009 and am in the middle of installing it in a 2006 4Runner... But I can't figure out what Sirius product to get!!!

You need the fit kit for the cable that runs from the sirius receiver to the head unit.
As far as antenna, I am using the roof mount that came with the Sirius Sportster Replay (which will soon be moved to wife's car once I get my 4Runner fit kit - just for the cable). The plug on that antenna fits the antenna plug on the Toyota Sirius receiver.

Hi all, first I'd like to say thanks for all the great information here. I just purchased my 4Runner yesterday and am pretty excited about it.
I have read about every thread when it comes to installing the Sirius receiver in with the JBL Navigation system (I have the factory install) and also have read conflicting information.
With the 2006 4Runner with factory nav, is it best to use the Solara, Landcruiser, etc?

Additionally, I've been on the phone with Freeman's Car Stereo here in Charlotte, NC who does installs for all the big Toyota dealerships here. They said that the 3rd version of the Sirius receiver will come out next week that also has plugs to support an iPod and auxillary input.
The issue with that is...the price is steep! He said they are charging $429 for the receiver and another $99 for another part I don't remember...most likely the kit.
He also said this version has the limited text shown fixed. Has anyone heard anything about this new version?
Btw, do all the Solara, etc. kits limit the number of characters shown?

Tuner is just the tuner box with no cables or brackets.
The fit kit has the mounting brackets, antenna(not the best one) and the cable to connect to your head unit.

Now that their is a sirius unit made for the 4runner, does anyone know if the y-cable is needed for the install? I have the JBL synthesis system (no nav) but want to make sure I can still use the aux port.

Hopefully this install has gotten cheaper.... Currently I have found this Simple Gateway product with cables....http://www.amazon.com/PAC-SiriusXM-...2&sr=8-2-fkmr0&keywords=simple+gateway+isty12
but I am wondering what is the Y-cable folks spoke of back in 2006, and do I really need the Gateway products box ? I know I need the Sirius tuner but those are under a hundred bucks
