Anyhow Go In And They Say Oil And Rotation Covered But Balance Required And Not Covered. WTF? If Toyota Covers The First 4 Services Why Should I Have To Pay Out Of Pocket For Anything? This Is My First Toyota. Is This Just How It Is Or Are They Trying To Rip Me Off?

You're mad because they recommend you have your tires balanced? Grow up dude. They're a business like any other and it's their job to try and upsell you on stuff. If you don't want your tires balanced, grow a pair and say so and move on.
If you windshield wipers were worn and they tried to tell you, would you be coming here to cry about paying for new blades? The dealer bashing threads get old. An independent shop is no different. They only make money by doing work.

The reason Toyota won't pay for it is because they know it's not needed. Unless you've complained about some noise or vibration there's probably no need, it's an upsell.

I'm an internet tough guy and you're a real life idiot that can't tell someone they don't want their tires balanced without crying on a message board. Do you get mad at the mcdonald's girl for asking you to supersize? *whiny girl voice* "but my value meal already comes with fries and a drink, why would I want to pay for more.."

They Wanted $60. Again I Declined. They Asked Me To Do The Service I Didn't Complain.

There Is A Reason Why There Are Dealer Complaints. I Have No Problem Paying For Service That Is NEEDED. If My Blades Were Worn, Sure. But There Is A Difference Between That And PlaIn Upsell.

I Have A Good Independent Guy. At Times He Won't Change Things I Ask For Because It Is Not Needed And He Makes Sure The Job Is Done Right Or He Will Fix It. Maybe That's Why I Expect More.

You bash dealers at every chance you get. They weren't trying to flush his transmission or clean his throttle body or muffler bearing or whatever else. Did they say it was a matter of life or death to get the tires balanced? They recommended a tire balance. An educated consumer can easily say no thanks and move on.

You really need to tell us your dealer horror story sometime man. Did a dealership kidnap your children? Did they take your house? Did they cause a marital rift? Just kidding but man, tell us the WHOLE story behind the intense dislike.

There is no difference between dealerships and McDonalds. Or Amazon. Or Foot Locker. Or AnyBusinessInAmerica. Especially drug companies! Geez look at their commercials now. Upsell is a way of life unfortunately.

Unfortunately people will be taken advantage of until and unless they are armed with a weapon called knowledge.
I have been burnt before and I'm sure everyone here has a time or two. Companies are in business to make as much money as possible and upselling is just a part of it. I am in the process of teaching my 22yo daughter (now on her own in this big bad world) how to properly navigate such pitfalls as car dealerships and phone companies. If the tires going to the front are out of balance they are going to get a comeback or possible argument. The writer covers his butt by offering a balance up front (which I would decline all day). Throttle cleaning at 10k now thats plain trying to rob you. Let me just say Im not a big fan of people bashing others posts or comments. Funny how your criticism assumes that the OPs tires are, in fact, out of balance.

Worn wipers are easy to tell. Imbalanced tires should be obvious with vibrations at speed. Did the OP say anything about that?

btw, the SAs at the local Land Rover dealership would recommend a four wheel alignment for my LR3 every other service (so every 12 months). I would have thought that was excessive but the damn thing inevitably tracked funny every year. I still complained about it. lol.

The Way It Was Presented Was That I Needed To Do The Balancing. This Is Before They Even Looked At The Car / Took It Out Back. Also This Was Without Me Complaining About Any Drive Line Issues Of Which There Are None. It Is Shameful That They Imply That Not Doing It Is Going Against What Toyota Wants.

Im A Small Business Owner So I Understand How The World Works To Survive. Maybe It's Because I Believe In Human Decency. If Something Needs To Be Done, Do It And Charge Appropriately. Cheating People Isn't A Good Long Term Strategy.
