Toyota's 4wd vs my Tahoe?

My new 2015 Limited 4wd 4runner is in route to the dealership but i just read something that makes me think the 4wd system on it will be inferior to my current Tahoe 4wd which has a Eaton locking rear end, it locks when a slight amt of wheel slippage is detected and i find it works very well. It appears the locking system on the 4runner is electronic but it does not come on the Limited, it is a feature of the Trail. Will my limited have an inferior 4wd system to my tahoe's 4wd by cirtue of not having the rear locker? Im sure it will be fine either way but i navigate mud, water and deep slippery mudruts in Florida.

They call the gov locker a gov bomb. They are cool for a little while, then they go boom.

First, i am very excited anout my new limited and look forward to getting it in a week or two, but, the tahoe z71 is a 2004 and i love it. I am only getting rid of it bc my rule of thumb is not more than 10 yrs for any vehicle and im on borrowed time. This tahoe has been fantastic and i have punished it for years, lots of water and mud, virtually trouble free. The eaton rear diff has been terrific, had two expeditions and the limited slip was horrible, lots of chatter on turns but this was has been terrific.

Someone asked why i got a limited if i use offroad vs a trail or sr5. Thats a fair question but essentially, recognizing this is a personal preference point of view, there is no color i like as much as blizzard pearl which only comes in limited, the facia of the sr5 is u appealing to me, and i love the extra creature comforts that come with a limited. I wanted to like the sr5 or trail given the price point but in the end, i would not have been happy so i bit the bullet and spent the extra money to get what i really wanted.

I have owed corvettes, trans-am, pickups, 2 expeditions, camaros, mustangs, a tahoe, a explorer and a few other domestics but never a japanese vehicle so looking forward to experiencing it.

So using your rule of thumb that you replace every 10 years, your what, 216+ years old? ( I assumed that any plural statements above were 3 or more because you specifically called out 2 expeditions, but simply (s) of the corvettes, pickups etc).........whats your secret?

On Topic: you will not have issues with the limited not having a rear locker, and if you get to the point where you need a rear locker you can always add an ARB air locker and welcome to the club

I don't do much off roading. Driving in the field at harvest time/planting time and maybe when the ground is froze to check stuff out is about it. On road snow is my main concern I guess.

Like I said the 2007 didn't work right, the 03 truck was also a bit difficult. GM always comes on instantly goes off instantly and the locker is there when you need it. So far the 4Runner has been the same and I'm glad.

In the 2007 I was driving through the country, came into some serious drifts and lo and behold the system took a half a mile to come on and by then I had came to a stop and became stuck. Needless to say I wasn't happy. The manual always said it may blink and to drive straight with foot off gas to engage faster but that day it didn't come on and left me stranded.

Technically, the sun does not "rise" in the east. It is stationary in the center of the solar system and the earth rotates into daylight. :hiding:

I think a more fair comparison would be a Trail with std. Locker. I would love to see a trail vs Tahoe show.

If your userid is any indication of your profession or at least education, you should be smart enough to be interpret what i said without having to add some stupid sarcastic comment. What i said was, not more than 10 years. I have traded many vehicles in a short amount of time for one reason or another. My first expedition was a 98 and it was terrific, but my circumstances changed so i needed 4wd and i traded it for another expedition even though it was only 3 yrs old. I am also including my wife's vehicles in the 10'yr rule, which doesnt mean i need to personally own it for 10 yrs but a 10 yr old vehicle is old enough for me to trade.

Make sure you remember his stupid sarcastic comment when you have a question or problem and he knows the answer and posts it so then you can ignore it.
Stick around and read some posts regularly for a month ot two. It's tough to pick up sarcasm and jokes until you read that person's posts for awhile. Get a grip.
