Toytec Ultimate BOSS

I have a 2014 TE with a Boss lift kit and I just hit 10000 miles and I been noticing grease dots on the body, at first I thought that it was the CV boots but when I when under the truck I couldn't find anything on the boots after further inspection I found that the driveshaft was flinging grease all over the undercarriage of the car.
I looked over the forum and I guess this is a common problem on 4runners but what causes this? Is it the lift? or just bad luck.

FWIW...Mine is not lifted and I have the same spots under mine.

Driveshaft spins at high speed, grease is flung off. It's not a problem or bad luck, it's just how machines work. Take it off road a bit and you won't see that grease any more.
 
Quick question. I am installing this lift on Monday.

1. What harm is there in taking off the sway bar? I drive tons of highway miles
2. Does that kit come with the sway bar spacers? If not I think I read that you could just use some washers for the spacer? What have others that have used this seen in the long run?

Any other tips or tricks to make this the best setup possible?

I will be probably lifting the front about 2-2.5 and the rear about 1.

do you have kDSS suspension ?
 
[MENTION=49407]bigsp[/MENTION] the boss kit or even just the front boss coil over comes with sway bar spacers. The washers folks were referring to were for the radiator bracket, I think the kit comes with that now as my packing slip listed it. I paid to have mine installed and love the ride but I only did the front coil overs as I put in SAW rear coils with bilstein shocks in the back. If you drive a ton on the highway you want the sway bars on for sure.
 
I have had my toytec setup on for about 15k miles without the front swaybar and no issues or worries.

You will really like the the upgrade from Xreas off-road, I assume you are getting their rear coils which probably ride similar to the SAW given both claim about the same increase in spring rate, you'll just have more height. I was pretty amazed how much more comfortable off-road it is. On highway I thought low speed and even highway speeds were about the same but did feel like mid speed side roads I feel less stable, well worth the trade off. Not to mention the truck just looks awesome, haha.

[MENTION=77504]mace.[/MENTION] did you lose some highway stability without the sway bar, I'm sure it helped off-road with flex and assuming that's why you left it off?
 
[MENTION=91899]Jhalko[/MENTION] I don't feel much of a difference in body roll and no difference just cruising down the highway. I'm sure if I had to make a crazy evasive maneuver I would see it but I drive pretty conservatively on the highway. I'm running D load 285 duratracs on SCS wheels. Not sure if that stance / combo makes any difference or not.

I live in MI and even our streets are off-road lol. Tons of potholes etc.

On a serious note though what do you guys mean when you say it rides better off road? Will I be able to go fast on 2 tracks that are all rutted and potholed? That would be great for me. I do a ton of bird hunting in the fall and have to go so slow on the back roads it sucks.

You will be able to go faster, now that might mean something different for you than me. The most noticeable for me was on rough gravel roads, I could fly, much more stable at faster speeds. Now I haven't pushed it in real off-roading, I'm a chicken, but essentially you have more travel and better dampening so it's not quite so stiff and jarring on bumps. It'll be better, but if you want a desert racer I think you need more, haha.

We are spoiled in Colorado, smooth roads and very challenging off-road trails within a short drive.

Perfect!
That is exactly what I was hoping for. Most of our gravel roads are washboarded and have tons of little potholes so being able to go down those at a greater rate of speed will be huge for me. The added ground clearance will help in numerous areas as well. Can't wait to see and drive the final product.

Did you also install new upper control arms? If so what brand? Or did anyone else reading this install new upper arms? Thanks! Going to be installing my lift soon! Just not sure if the stock ones will be fine.

I did not put new UCA's on and the alignment was acceptable, keep in mind my front is set at 2.5" others have gone with this height and not changed them as well. That said I will likely put new ones on down the road as it can be a little twitchy at highway speed and it has been suggested a new UCA which would allow more caster would mean a more stable ride. Plus I do go off-road.

Also keep in mind I have stock SR5 tire size. Not sure how a 285 affects all this.
