Toytec Ultimate Lift Kit: Your thoughts?

If money isn't an issue than why not get some kings or fox's or even icon's? The toytec's are alright but they're basically 5100's with an adjustable collar. For a little more you can get legit coilovers.

To me, the fact that they're 5100s with a collar is a good thing. Toytecs are low-maintanence, they're popular and proven. Icons are cool and all, but not everyone needs something like that. Why just buy them for "bling"?

By far the dealer is the most expensive place you could possibly get the work done and in all likelihood their mechanics are no better or maybe less competent than the guy down the street. I guess you are lucky the dealer is even willing to do the work. Most won't. Perhaps you could inquire if the warranty also covers the aftermarket parts and labor since they are doing the work. In that case, the extra $$$ may almost be worth it.

Yeah, I was just in the dealer today, and asked at the parts counter if they stocked any 4runner lifts. Short answer: no. Long answer: they had never even heard of Toytec, or Icon, or basically anybody except ProComp. So I'll be going to my local lift specialist for this one (who just happens to specialize in Toyota anyway).

Its not like I have an unlimited budget....the Toytecs are a perfect price. I dont offroad enough to justify getting anything fancier. I just need it lifted for better clearance, slightly bigger tires, and a little better ride than the nose diving stock. Remember I still have a family that gets carted around everyday in town so realistically the lift is gonna be 90% for looks and 10% off roading. Now if I were single and just out of college, Id do a serious lift. But I have other expenses now....like diapers and baby food. :) Im just stoked that the wife told me to go ahead and get a lift and bigger tires since we need new tires. Guess Im doing something right!

So since I don't know where I read it...but what is this process of pinning back the inner fender? Mine is rubbing after getting the lift and tires on today.

I read that I take the piece of and re-screw it in further back? Are there pictures anywhere?

Great thread. I had most of the same questions about the TT lift and to honest lifts in general. Now time to start my build.

I haven't posted 15 replays yet so I can't make a thread and after a search, I found this thread to be the most relevant. Nonetheless, I need help.

I installed a Toytec Ultimate yesterday (I did not get UCAs) on my 5th Gen and took it to get aligned today at Sears because they offer a lifetime alignment even after a lift. My problem is, they were not able to get it back to specs. They claimed that I needed "extrusion bolts" for the lower control arms so they can get the proper settings and fix my castor angle. I'm sure this wouldn't be an issue if I had put new UCAs on but absolutely everyone on the forums says that I should be align just fine with factory UCAs on a Toytec Ultimate. Has anyone else run into this problem or had this issue before? If so, what did you do to fix it?

Sounds like alignment techs aren't well versed in their craft. I know what bolts they're talking about from back in my BMW days. I'd take it somewhere else. Talk to the techs first and see if they're on your level with what you're trying to accomplish.

Yes and no with what was said above but just cause your caster isn't perfectly back to spec doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad thing. As long as it's close or close ish.
Post a pic of your specs.

These are the specs (if I attached properly). No, it's not a limited despite what the print out says. It's on a TEP.

I'm new to the 4runner but I've gone through all of this twice on two different Tacomas (same suspension) and the bottom line is not all 4runners are exactly the same. I've seen people get away with stock UCA's and others that weren't even close to spec. This is only my opinion, but if anyone plans on lifting their 4runner, plan on budgeting for UCA's. It's worth it in the end and you'll thank yourself later when you compare a high caster to what you've experienced thus far. So much better.

I just got mine today. Lift is at about 2.5". Ride is good, maybe just a little stiffer, but not enough to matter and that will get better when the bumper and wench go on. Handling seems the same. Dealer said it aligned perfectly without UCA.

I was a little concerned that it wouldn't look good with stock tires, but it looks nice.

Also got trail running boards. They will be handy as high as it is now.

While it was there I got an oil change at 1,700 miles, and got the seat belt alarm silenced.

Are you running the Superflex or Superflex HD springs in the rear? I chose the standard Superflex with the TT Boss rear shocks. I am gonna go with 275/70 KO2's, and wondering if I will have rubbing issues if I go 2.5" and if the lift will level out if I go 2.5" up front?

Standard Superflex with Bilstein 5100. Mine is near level with 2.5". As far as rubbing, I don't know as I am running stock tire size and have a lot of room. 275 is only .5 taller, so probably not.
