TPMS Bypass for 5th gens.

Haven't done it with the 4R but with my jeeps I had to disable it with a programmer. I don't know if it can be done without it. But also, I'm not that smart.

Ive seen Mustang guys do this, when they run track tires or just switch out between sets a lot, some just throw it in the spare tire well and not worry about it.
Here at my shop we see batteries last anywhere from 5-7yrs in TPMS sensors. GM's are the worst with them dying. Several manufactures can be a pain to program, mostly Chrysler at times. Ive never had any issues with my sensors but I get them cheap so I run them lol.

I have searched every thread about bypassing the TPMS on the 5th gen and there appears to be no answer. There is some speculation that the process for disabling the 4th gen TPMS *MAY* be the same. Has anyone actually tried it?
I may attempt this with a scotchtlock but not if somebody reports they tried it and it didn't work.

I live where I need snow tires so having atleast 2 sets of wheels that need to be re-programmed after every change isnt worth it for me. Not to mention battery failure and/or just TPMS failure in general, I can't be bothered. Its like the sky is falling without them for people. Been driving for 20 plus years and always visually check my tire pressure and am aware enough to know what a low tire pressure vehicle tracks like down the highway.
Who else is waiting for an autonomous 4Runner?

Based on what I have seen on other Toyota forums and other Toyota models it required that 5V be constant on one wire.
When voltage drops to 0.5 the light comes on. Everything OK and the module gets 5V.
So they took a SPDT center off switch and cut the signal wire while also a splice to the 5V.
Wire 1 was a nearby wire that was constant 5V
Wire 2 was the sensor wire that toggles between 0.5 and 5V depending on what it is fed from elsewhere.
Center pole of switch terminates at sensor wire location ( Wire 2 after you cut it. )
Left pole goes to wire 1 as a splice
Right pole goes to the loose end you now have for Wire 2.
Your selections will be....
POS 1. 5V Constant = No Light
Center Open Circuit -- which may or may not illuminate light hard to say if it needs to see that 0.5v minimum. The good thing about that center off is that you breaks in connection such that the other voltage feeds can never see each other.
POS 2. NORMAL CONECTION = Light only when pressure drops
Looking at the 2010 wiring diags.. .a lot of that same wiring is present. I believe the car they were working on was a Camry or something. In fact they had a 12 position connector and it may even be the same setup as the 2010 has a 12 pos with similar color wires but the positions are altered.
Where they used pos 5-6 for signal and 5Vconstant it looks like we would have pos 12 and 6 for Signal and 5Vconstant.
Now that's just my quick look at the diagrams and quick read of their thread so don't take my word for it, but it looks like would work unless now the systems are looking at multiple points of data and all of it has line up and not simply that 5V point of reference.
So DO NOT do what I wrote above. It's simply food for thought as I can't tell what all the nomenclature is on the diagram nor how it functions as a whole.
I'm just getting started on doing any mods but Antman seems to like to cut wires and drill holes so maybe he would try it.

I'm waiting on the solution for 5th gen as well, I did the procedure on my 4th gen and it worked perfect. I had a switch in the glove box and I could disable the system completely or turn it back on. I go to Pismo beach and a lot of desert areas out here in California and air down a lot and it worked very well. I also had a set of dedicated mud tires that I would put on and just turn off the light
I think what I read was on ToyotaNation if you want to try to search for it.
I know I was searching 5th gen disable TPMS or something similar.
It came up as non- 4runner. There were a lot of details, photos, diagrams and even more if you signed up/logged in, which I did not do.

I have the sensors in my summers, but my winters aren't equipped bc I didn't want to shell out $ for tpms on them. I don't really mind the light, but if I did, I'd put a picture of my wife over it and when she asks me why there's a picture of her on my dash, I'd tell her it's because I love her so damn much [win-win].

Colby Valve Stem for trail repair!
I wish I read the clever idea of making a pressure vessel out of PVC before just having my new wheels and tires mounted. The TPMS metal valve stem is going to get broken against a rock sooner or later for sure.
I just bought a Colby Valve Stem for trail repair. This is exactly what I was imagining that I would need when I break the valve stem. Everyone should have these in their trail repair gear.

a little off topic but does our spare have a tpms? i jus bought an extra wheel and tire for my pro and wanna make sure i have a sensor in the new one too

5th Gen 4Runners only recognize up to four TPMS sensors so there is no need to put one on the spare wheel.

I was told by the guy at a Toyota dealer parts counter that they did. Guess what, they don't.
This.
After thinking I was being responsible and buying a 5th TPMS for my matching spare, which I put into the rotation I was told that 4Runners only accept 4.
Pretty much just pissed away $80 for not doing my research and relying on what a parts guy said.
