TPMS Sensor light problem

Anyone have a problem with 5th gen TPMS sensor light on dash going on then off? I had it happen this weekend. Driving highway, the light flashed, then was solid (on) for a while. I pulled off, checked the tires, which seemed fine, drove away, and the light went off. No problem since. Ideas? I didn't know that light flashed at all. What does that mean?

Are they the original sensors just transferred over to you new wheels?
Did you have the problem with your oem wheels?
They are supposed to throw the light at <26.8psi.It will flash and then go on solid.
I would have the tire shop where you had the wheels put on just go thru the TPMS re-initialization.They do it for free around here. They could have damaged one putting the tire on.

I have a question about those TPMS sensors.
I'm planning to buy new set of wheels and winter tires for my SR5. I'll keep my original wheels and tires for summer. With the price for the new wheels and tires they include also $290 for TPMS sensors and install/align tires on the wheels.
How can I re-program new sensors? Do I have to go at Toyota every time when I change the tires for the summer and for the winter, or they can programmed 2 pair of sensors and no need to go every time at the dealer.
The original sensor will be with the summer tires and original wheels.

The truck only stores info on 4 sensors so it will have to be re-programmed when you swap from winter to summer and back to winter. Most tire shops can do this so you don't need to go to the dealer. IIRC, the programmer is too expensive to be practical to buy for your own use.

They have "Discount Tire" stores around Portland. Highly recommend them as they will match any lower price ,even on internet like Tirerack if you print it out and take it to them.They also do free TPMS re-reinitializations when you swap wheels if you bought the tires there.
New TPMS sensors are around $20 a piece on Ebay and the ones we use are PMV-107J. The dealership will rip you off big time on sensors!

Yup I paid $70 off Ebay for a used set, the dealer wanted about that for each. Shop around you'll find them much cheaper.

Admitingly there are many subjects hard to find via search but TPMS is not one of them.

Anyways, no sensor in the spare and sorry for not just answering in the first place.

THey are the original sensors moved to the new tires. Good idea on the initialization. Looks like I'm headed back to see Ducmonsta.

I'm receiving conflicting information between this thread (and others) and my selling dealership, from which I am scheduled to take delivery of a Trail Edition on 5/18/12.

I've already ordered an extra matching TE-style wheel to facilitate a five wheel (tire) rotation. My dealer tells me that the spare wheel/tire that comes with the vehicle has a TPMS that I can transfer to the new matching wheel that I just purchased (and still sits in the dealership's parts department). This thread indicates otherwise.

So my first question is, does the spare wheel/tire come with a TPMS as my dealer has indicated?

My second question is, can this TPMS be transfered to and used on the TE-style wheel that I just orderred?

My third question is, will my truck be able to read all five TPMS' and if so, will I be able to perform a five tire rotation without having to have my truck re-programmed each time that all five tires are rotated?

Immediately after taking delivery on Friday I am scheduled to have a nearby Belle Tire swap out my five stock Dunlops for five Firestone Destination ATs. One of the new Destination ATs would be installed on the extra TE wheel that I will take with me. It would be helpful to know in advance if I will need to pre-purchase and have on hand an additional TPMS.

Can anyone clarify this for me? This is all rather confusing.

Edit: A fifth TPMS is not needed. The spare steel wheel/tire or, in my case, a matching fifth TE wheel/tire can be used in a five tire rotation without causing the TPMS light on the dash to engage, because, the ECU will still read the original four sensors regardless of where they are located on the vehicle (assuming that the tires are properly inflated) Nothing to reprogram. Rotate away...

If the light has not come back on, I would wait until it does. There's no way of telling if it's a sensor problem or tire pressure if the light is not on. Well, unless the tires are actually low.
 
Question that I've never seen answered was if the truck knows or cares on which tire which sensor is on. I think it does not care as long as the four registered are withing range of the receiver. If true I would guess that when a tire with a sensor is in the spare location the receiver will still pick it up.

I say this because when I changed my tires I drove home with the original tires / sensors INSIDE the truck the light did not go on.

All guesses on my part.

When I swapped my tires last week it took some time for the light to come on. Each time I've been near the shop (old wheels/tires still there) it goes out and again takes awhile to come on. Really gotta get back and have em program the new wheels.

To your original question, no I don't think it knows, or if it does has no way to tell you which tire is going down.

You know i swear when my friend and i were changing my truck from Fahrenheit to Celsius (also MPG to KP/L100 i saw 5 TPMS spots. We were using TIS techstream (we also set all the windows to roll down). Next time i hook the truck up i'll take a pic of it, now that we found a way around the 2 day limit for TIS. Also they were numbered 1 to 5 no left/right/front/back.
For TPMS this is what we bought to reprogram the computer ATEQ TPMS QuickSet
 
Thanks to everyone for sharing your thoughts and experience on this topic. So far, the light has not come back on, tire pressure is good. So we'll call it an anomaly for now and wait and see if it appears again.
