Just saw this video on youtube. I know that there are other tracks on the market that you can swap onto your wheel hubs but I dont think I've ever seen ones that leave the tires on and that you can simply drive into. Neat.

This system (or one VERY similar to it) has been discussed at length here once before. As 1Engineer will shortly describe in intricate detail, using the tire as the method to drive the track, reduces the efficiency of the track due to the limiting factor of resistance between the tire and the track rollers. This is also affected by the factor of how and how tight the track system is attached to the wheel and how much lateral or other off axis movement the track can have in relation to the wheel.

I'm sure that it may serve a purpose, but I think that purpose is mainly a fun factor and not a professional deep-snow traversing machine purpose :lookout:

Ground Clearance and
Reduced Ground Pressure

You lose:
Lots of efficiency
Versatility
Tire life
Turning radius

Sidewalls are not designed for high lateral loads. Driving portion on bottom is fine, sidewalls being used to as a roller guide not so much.

I could see using this setup for something like feeding cattle in North Dakota or parts of Canada in the winter, where you have a dedicated farm use truck to load or pull a feed trailer over deep snow with no roads, just fields.. Anything else is usually a short duration where a tractor would be more appropriate. It's a very cool idea and one that many of us have had over the years. This guy just decided to build it!
