Yes, I was actually going to look into the Limited if I did not find the right X5. My dog, Paws, probably would have wanted me to get the limited - he does not seem to happy about losing his cargo door window that goes down!

I agree with you completely. I somewhat understand why people could be offended by myself not enjoying something they love. However, what i'm confused about is that I clearly stated that I found the 4R enjoyable, and had a great time with it. I would never feel comfortable with myself coming to a forum and bashing something that people have spent their hard work and money for. The 4R has a lot going for it and is unique to the SUV mkt. However, using it as a primary SUV in my main location (city and urban use) - it personally did not prove to be a practical car for me. I have nothing against 4R's at all! I think they are very cool. In fact, If I lived on Cape Cod full time, I could not imagine a better car. BTW, nice list of rides! My first car was an LR3 that my dad handed down to me. We got ours in fall '05! We traded it in for the '07 ML.. it had about 88k miles. My dad still misses the LR3- excellent car.

I wish I could have kept both! One day I will hopefully be able to own another 4R. Glad to know you love the X5- I'm fascinated by how it drives.. and that sunroof!!!!! :thumb3:
 
The fact that the Trail is a body-on-frame truck likely accounts for many of the characteristics you and your father found unappealing. Just having a Trail with KDSS would have improved your impression of the handling and ride, as would upgrading the tires.

As a high-end sports SUV the Bimmer doubtless handles with more precision on pavement, and is more responsive and fun to drive. Get off-road, or into harsh winter conditions, and the Trail would come into its own.

You seem to have made the right choice to suit your needs, and I hope it works out great for you.

In my opinion your original post was just fine, I don't see why people got offended by it. I guess some guys just can't stand when somebody change 4Runner for something else not to mention BMW. Or maybe they didn't read your post... Anyway thanks for sharing. Btw I don't understand at all how you guys drive in Boston, I was there just once on smaller Ford Escape - I parked it in the hotel and we either walked or took a taxi : )
 
once again, this is toyota 4runner forum not german car forum. X5 sure is a decent CAR but talking about german cars is way off topic here. and what makes you think that i was offended? how about i post a pic. of my 3 months old X6m here and complaining about my 4runner TE's poor handling?

He was just sharing his experience with his 4runner, and what he traded it for.
 
Like many of us on the forum, I defended your right to post your comment. But for the life of me I dont see why you felt it necessary to make the post.
You probably dont realize that it came across as snobbish and putting others in a lesser status. Maybe you do and that was your intent.

You're a student and traded the 4Runner in for the X5 or your Dad traded in the 4Runner for the X5? :wink2:
 
If you guys actually think some guy on the internet is really trying to rub in your face his new car purchase then that is hilarious. If you hate hearing people getting rid of their 4runners, and saying it's not right for them, then why even click on a thread that says "just traded my trail..."

OP even thought I replied with the cool story bro I give you credit saying what you liked and didn't like about the 4R.

This isn't your first German car. They drive like nothing else on the road and some of them are high maintenance - so what.

The fact of the matter is that the new X5 destroys the 4R on the road - especially the V6 5th gen. If someone is offended because you wanted a better road vehicle with better handling, performance, quality, and craftsmanship it's their problem.

FWIW, the V8 4th gen was quicker than the 1st gen 4.4 V8 X5 ;)

I'm sorry if it offended you that she had a beach car. It was a 1973 FJ40 that she bought for 5,000.00 to take my brother and I out to Big Sur and Santa Cruz. We later sold it for a 1975 "commander" RV- I'm going to say the the LC was much less scarier with her driving on highway 1 but as a single mom, she played the both parent role well as far as bringing us to the outdoors. You don't know me, or my family or our past. Don't judge buddy.

Also...driving to the Occupy Wall Street and World Bank protests in a used BMW is much more appropriate.:D
