....sad to see it go really! I took both of my kids home from the hospital in it after they were born. I've had it almost 2 years

I traded it in on a 2014 Tundra CrewMax 4x4 TRD tonight. I just needed more room and the Tundra has nothing but room. I got the Tundra for $37k which was $4k off of MSRP. They gave me $30k for the 2011 4Runner TE with 45,000 miles on it and I felt it was a fair deal.

Hope you boys don't mind if I stick around the forum, I sure love seeing all of the builds that are ongoing and I have a soft spot in my heart for the 5th Gen 4Runners

How does a Tundra have more room for a "family" than a 4R?

If for gear, OK, but body wise, its the same thing.

I'm 6'4 and 260lbs and we have 2 kids in rear facing car seats. The back seat of the Tundra is HUGE, I put the drivers seat all the way back and I had a ton of legroom in the back of the Tundra. In the 4 Runner I could not put the drivers seat all the way back with the car seat behind me. The cab of the Tundra is a lot more comfortable and we can put all of the strollers and gear in the bed of the truck

Tundra for sure has mega room! I miss mine.... almost traded my 4r in for another one a few months back but figured a utility trailer was good enough. Congrats, they are great trucks

OP, we ended up doing the same thing, and have the same feelings. We got a 2013 though, in that awesome Spruce Mica color - it'll take a while before the new body style will grow on me, although you had better lock your tailgate I'll take your rear bumper too.

And the Michelin AT/2's the TRDs now come with are more than a few orders of magnitude better than the BFG Rugged Trails the older ones had in every way.

Um, not even close. A double-cab has one inch more rear legroom than the 4Runner according to official specs. The CrewMax has a whopping 10 inches more. As in, you can push your seat all the way back, and the little wiggly things still can't kick your seatback.

I can't say I like the Tundra front seats, they feel like a sofa. But the center console is big enough that you can send a kid in there for a time-out.

Weight, wind resistance, rolling resistance. Weight matters most in city driving, and the latter two more on the highway.

Man, I made the swap from the crewmax to the trail. I have a 2.5 and 5 year old. I prefer the protected cargo area for all of their stuff ....keeps the clutter off the floor board where everything ended up in the Tundra.

Yeah I am in the opposite boat, have a 2007 Tundra Crewmax Love the size and space but ever since we got the TR4 13 it has made me miss my old 98 TR4. thinking of trading the Tundra in for a new Bimmer for the wife and stealing the TR4. My kids are now 9 and 6 so no more rear facing seats for me. I totally get the rear facing room issue as we had similar issue's with our last 325i and the youngest rear facing, but hey it is only for 1 year. Love the Tundra great truck great power enjoy I do love mine.

Best of luck with your new ride bruh! I just traded in my 08 CrewMax 5.7 for a 13 Runner. Rolling on 35's with an ARB Sahara bumper on the Tundra I was averaging about 8mpg. IMO you cant go wrong with either ride, each have their up's and downs.

Never had to try rear facing in the T4R, but I don't expect that we would have had problems. Then again, we're not "seat all the way back" drivers either. My wife is 5'11" and I'm 6'3". Before we got the truck, I verified that I could "sit behind myself," despite the 32.9 inches "on paper" leg room. I found more space than the 4th Gen, which I understand is related to the "carved out" area in the back of the front seats. More space is always nice, but comes with other consequences.

A Tundra wouldn't really fit in my driveway, but enjoy yours!

Ouch! I thought about the tundra. But that mpg would kill me. I'm spending about $500/mo on gas as it is. Getting about 16 mpg on my trail.

Last weekend when I visited the dealer to pick up some oem oil filters, I checked out the new 2014 trd edition tundra 5.7.... What a beast!!
Almost wanted to trade in my 2011 sr5, but I couldn't afford the gas on this thing if its 13mpg!

Our Prius v is better at fitting the rear facing infant/toddler seat than my T4R.

I've considered picking up a '14 Tundra Crewmax. WV has some insane $7500 tax credit on flex fuel vehicles, so I could be in a TRD offroad SR5 for very little money all said and done. But, I just bought new tires and I could pick up a trailer for $1000 to do the truck stuff. So, I'll keep my big fella.
