I talked to Toyota at the FJ summit yesterday and the thinking on their part is this, the Tundra and Tacoma have TRD Offroad packages and 4Runner has Trail and was not inline with the others. So they wanted to make sure they were all inline. Nothing changes on the package at all. Infact the one they had there said it was actually a 14 Trail on the door label. Haha. Also, dont ever expect true offroad tires on any of these except TRD Pro. It has to do with MPG ratings and the CAFE standard. They have to use these cheap tires to squeek every bit of MPG out of them and it costs a lot to reclassify. The TRD pro has its own rating so is why it gets the better tires.Has anyone considered that Toyota could be promoting the TRD Off Road as a viable and capable replacement for the owners of aging FJ Cruisers that are no longer in production?

So there needs to be a badge placed on the vehicle that says "Off Road" to ensure people that it can go off road? lol. That's just what I got out of this comment. I don't think the FJ's ever had a badge that said "Off Road". It's just a gimmick. I think they may just be trying to tie it in with the Tacoma and Tundra which use the Off Road models.
Toyota's definitely reaching on these decisions lol.
I'm debating between the Trail premium and the Pro. Other than KDSS and shocks, is there any other mechanical difference? which is a better deal?
So far it seems I can get fully loaded trail for about 40k and Pro for its MSRP $42.
Pro doesn't have a sunroof BUT has auto headlights which TEP does not.
and that is a big deal, no really, it was to me
It was simple question guys. Remember, roughly half of the country is either ready to vote for a chronic liar or a self important celebrity to be our next president. The marketers are simply playing to the lowest common denominator.:
a white flag? as in, "i surrender (my judgment; my humility; an excessive amount of $$)"?
Chulksmack I'm also in the lower mainland and wanted a TRD pro but even a used pro would be north of 60k after exchange. Ended up going with the Trail and my icon kit just showed up!
if the Pro owner is going to leave it as-is, gets it for a discount (comparable to negotiations possible on other trims), and has no interest in KDSS and a sunroof, i don't necessarily disagree. so many, though, immediately start upgrading tires and suspension so they're left with what? TRD bric-a-brac, a decent skid, maybe wheels (that are inexplicably narrower than the stock Trail wheels), and—perhaps—an exclusive colorway they paid MSRP—or even more—for. it makes no sense—to me.To each their own I guess. I got 2K off, which seemed to be about the same to the Trail(where I was shopping) Trail's were pretty difficult to get as well.
TRDP seems to be a good buy if you get it discounted a couple K's(some dealers are asking 2-3K over MSRP, which i believe your comment holds weight to). Don't have to get tires or suspension (which would have been my first two mods had i gotten a trail)

however, to each their own, as you said. i'm glad you got some level of discount. and folks are free to do what they please, of course. just as i'm free to scratch my head in befuddlement...![]()
and i agree with you entirely there, philsey.Don't disagree, but when Toyota sells every one they make at a higher-than-usual margin, it sure makes for a sound business decision.
