Trail Edition is now officially the TRD Off Road

Snapped this on friday. WHERE IS YOUR GOD NOW?!

yuck.

I just finished an evening of cleaning dust and dirt out of all the crevices after a weekend on a remote fishing trip. (and assessing the pinstripes- zaino is a savior). Ironically that "off road" would be a pain in the ass for anyone that actually goes offroad and gets that magical layer of thick dust on the back 1/3 of the runner

I guess it's easy enough to take off.

Very well written. I think you just punched some folks in the chest with you typing fingers. 1engineer

A guy drops $10K on an Icon stage eleventytwelve and tires and another $10K on wheels, rack, skids, dual battery setup, fridge, roof top tent and awning and uses the 4Runner to go to the mall. Same deal.

So it's going to be the Off Road instead of the Trail. Big deal. Kudos to Toyota for having a smart marketing team.

A guy has to buy clothes for work ya know... Hater.

I believe I went to Moab, Mojave, and Ouray, and not the mall. But I get your point. ;)

So you're saying they want to attract old guys that like logos.

Guys,
Remember WHY Toyota is in business. To make money, not to placate a small group of enthusiasts. I think changing the name will be brilliant from a business standpoint.

To go along with jrandom's post above: The truth is most people don't want to actually DO the cool stuff out in the woods on the trails but they want to THINK they COULD and they want to LOOK THE PART! TRD parts like wheels, brakes and the name itself along with the words "off road" just help those people dream. Simple fact. The truth is it's HARD to do the cool stuff. It's HARD to have an epic trip. It's HARD to have to pedal up a 2K ascent so you can have a great downhill run. It's HARD to pack your 4Runner for a long weekend, get out there in the pouring rain, get stuck, get wet, have warm beer and cold food. It's EASY to LOOK like you do that though! The truth is taking the 4Runner off road, riding hard on a mountain bike, hiking up through powder just to have a run nobody else has had that day, climbing that face to get a view very few others ever get.... it's hard.

I see it all the time in the mountain biking world and I'm sure Quentin sees it too. You get to a trail head and see the killer $8K bikes with the guys dressed like they are either riding in the Tour or competing in the world downhill championships lol. Then they take the two mile green trails, come back and go home to talk about their epic ride. Now don't get me wrong... they beat the guys who sit home on the couch right? You see the exact same thing here in this forum. A guy drops $10K on an Icon stage eleventytwelve and tires and another $10K on wheels, rack, skids, dual battery setup, fridge, roof top tent and awning and uses the 4Runner to go to the mall. Same deal.

I was disappointed that this was the "big announcement " at the FJ Summit. At least Toyota could've brought the upcoming TRD PRO Taco. That, in my opinion, is more inline with the off-road crowd and I was hoping to see it in person. I guess we should be happy that the 4runner gets some attention, gets to live for another year and Toyota still helps sponsor the summit and other enthusiast events like it.

What did you think of the cement gray color on the TRDP? Anyone grab any pics up close and personal of it?

I passed the Xoverland and Toyota USA teams on the way down from Imogene on Thursday. I thought the cement looked good but just like the quicksand it's too much of a good thing. It needs more black accents to break it up. It's not a bad color per say but stock it looks too much.

Also I heard a few of the XO guys yell out, "holy shit look at that 4Runner as I went past!" Cracked me up. not to toot my own horn but the XO rigs aren't nearly as built up as you'd think.

Auto headlights? I've never had an issue turning them on manually via that switch within arms length when needed...unless there is another function I am unaware of?

Yes. Navigation screen does not auto-dim. It's a PITA to always mess with the lights when you go in and out of parking garages etc so you can see the backup camera and/or not get blinded by the white navigation background. Plus it's 1990's tech that should be included in EVERY 2016 vehicle. It's standard equipment in Toyota's cheapest car - the yaris. Not even an option in a TEP. WTF toyota?

IMO KDSS is a must have. This is one of the little things that keeps me looking at trading for a GX460 or LC200.

I would trade up to an "off road" from my Trail if I could get keyless entry / starter button from the Limited and Auto Climate controls. They are convenience feature upgrades that should be standard on all Toyotas in the year 2017. A 2007 Prius has them.

Yup

That is exactly how I feel it should be standard on all of them I am hoping it will be for the off road. Wonder if the cement color will be in the TRD off road. It looks fantastic in the pictures. I understand the special colors are generally only TRD vehicles but the off-road says TRD doesn't it.

Lol... The only two things I miss from my 2011 LTD... Tho, from time to time I actually like having the key in the ignition for quick "hop out & back in" duties... Sucks on the keyless when I did that and it starting beotching/beeping like mad hell at me...

2014 TEP w/ KDSS / Bilstein 5100s (front at 1.75) / Cornfed 1 inch rear spacers / 265/70 Nitto TG G2s / FN Cntrsteer Type X / RCI Front skid / Yakima Cross bars / NFab Steps

I agree, it does look better on the red, I just like my gray without it

I got my Trail in silver for a few reasons.

1.) The ghastly silver trim would just blend right in
2.) The black trim would stick out more
3.) Silver is so easy to keep clean

But mainly so the silver trim would blend in, and I wouldn't have to plasti-dip it, or pay an exorbitant amount of money to swap out a couple plastic trim pieces haha.

No big pics.
